This part of the passage develops Grace's character a lot. It goes in depth on who she is as a person. She is very judgmental and critical. She is very critical towards the working class she assumes that they are going to steal and rob as they come to her living environment. She is very racially critical. She assumed that her friend Fiona was not going to give her the money so she took things into her hands and took something in return (the scarf). and simply at the end she notices the money was given to her and left her feeling in disgrace

milling crowd in the refugee cam
I believe the person who committed this crime regretted it as soon as they did it, not understanding the consequences of what they did or why they even did it. The return part makes me assume this was during a war, hence the “Refugee” part of the story. War was a time of fear and separation from families. The vivid descriptions such as stomachs being ripped opened, screaming women men and children Is used to show the emotion the author is trying to portray to the audience.
