    3. As he drifts through Manhattan, Nick feels like a “stranger” inthe city. He feels somehow lost, realizing that he only knows it “at streetlevel, fitfully.”

Like a town centre filled with shoppers in the daytime it becomes a different place at night when the shops are closed and the clubs are open...so that when drinking during the daytime the town centre becomes unfamiliar and you feel like a stranger, and likewise, walking through the town centre through the throng of party revellers, sober at night after a trip to the cinema for example, also has an alienating effect.

The virtual body would be the background used to represent Christopher's brain, his complex network of neurons. It is also a hybridisation since Christopher is also present on stage in the physical sense. It could also be surmised that Shavaun, in narrating Christophers novel to the audience, acts as a projection of his inner self, her external voice projecting his inner thoughts and feelings that he is unable to verbalise work to calm him in stressful situations

    7. Lev Manovich identified some main differences between old and new media (Manovich,2001). There are five main characteristics of the new media, according to Manovich: 1) thenumerical representation of the object, i.e. its digital code that enables algorithmicmanipulation of the digital object - media becomes programmable; 2) modularity of theobject - media elements (images, sounds...) are represented as collections of discretesamples. These elements are assembled into larger-scale objects but they continue tomaintain their separate identity. These two, more material characteristics, enable 3)automatization of many operations with new media, as well as 4) the possibility that manydifferent versions of the same “media object” exist, i.e. its variability, that have more deepcharacteristics with far-reaching consequences. 5) Transcoding is the last characteristic thatManovich describes - to transcode is to translate something into another format. Thus newmedia becomes unrelated to a particular hardware and it also means that the computer layerand its logic and cultural/content layer influence each other creating a new media logic thatcultural sectors must take into account. The described characteristics of the media andcultural objects change our understanding of them.6 For Pierre Lévy the concept “virtual” has at least three meanings: a technical meaningassociated with IT, a contemporary meaning and a philosophical meaning. In itsphilosophical sense, the virtual is that which exists potentially rather than actually. As it iscurrently employed, i.e. in its contemporary meaning, the word virtual often signifiesunreality - reality implying a tangible presence (as in virtual reality). In its technicalmeaning, related with ICT, virtual means the possibility of generating information based onexisting digital data and users instructions. As Lévy says “within digital networks, information is obviously physically present somewhere, on a given medium, but it is alsovirtually present at each point of the network where it i

    1. Second, digital technologies and new media are able to provide writers and authors with instant readership so they have to be ready for the expansion of their “fandom” and community of followers. New audiences are easily engaged with the author’s work and it is no longer necessary for authors to desperately seek an audience, especially when it comes to Web-based literature—“if you write, they will come” (

Authors have webpages, blogs and social media communities where they interact with readers, often posting videos, podcasts or going live to answer reader's questions. This does not only apply to writers. Justin Bieber found worldwide fame as a child when he posted videos of himself singing on YouTube

Authors need to learn how to use digital tools in order to get the best from their ideas. Editing their work using software probably speeds things up, however, it will no doubt change the story in some way. If an author uses recommendations from the software they are using then it could be said that the software is a co-author. For example, if the author uploads their work to Voyant tools, they might see a pattern they do not like, such as using perhaps too many times. Or if they upload to Grammarly and Grammarly makes suggestions on restructuring sentences based on active or passive voice, or just simple coherence.

We see this in reality TV. We are not simply viewing the lives of reality stars as they happen, they are often based on a back story and usually always a struggle or a past trauma. By sharing (or concocting) stories, the reality star can garner sympathy from the audience, make more money for the charity or business they have adopted as part of their narrative, and keep themselves current, ensuring financial security.
