    1. The constellation called Las Gallardias, which at evening appeared in a westerly direction, was seen in the northeast the next morning,

Is he saying they are closer or further away from land because the constellation has moved, because if so he's so wrong.

    2. representing the profits they were about to acquire,

What profits? He keeps 'lying' to the sailors about how much work they are actually putting in. I highly doubt its because he doesn't want to break their spirits.

    1. If you just hear about it you are not likely to try it. If you desire real knowledge about it try it yourself, for then you will learn of things that you had never known before.

So not only, does it cure you of your illness and bad habits, but it also gives you great knowledge? This is impossible! How!?

    2. This medicine is good and I will always use it

Is he saying without peyote he would only be capable of living a bad life? He cant make good decisions without the drug?

    1. House Made of Dawn

I disagree, with the statement of there not being a Native American point of view. After reading Momaday's Pulitzer Prize, I felt as if I had a better understanding of the struggle Native Americans have in "our" life. I feel as though, you did see the Native American perspective. If anything you saw both the Native American perspective and the modern day American white males perspective.

    3. Such works have enjoyed wide and consistent popularity among the Euro-American readership

I just love how we all enjoy this literature, like the Native Americans actually wrote this. Its funny to think that the majority of the information we know about the Native American people come from the white man. Its like we only collected one side of the story, and it wasn't even the right side.

    4. Little wonder, therefore, that to these early European observers, all "Natives" of a particular geographic or pigmentary category "looked alike."

I like this a lot, because it show how little things have changed. We still as a people view different races or cultures as all the same, when we do not fully comprehend a race or culture.

    5. English literature is expected to be in English, and to be therefore accessi- ble first and foremost to English-speaking clients.

What about novels and stories written by Africans or Irishmen in English for English readers, would that still be considered English literature? Even though the context is not all "English culture"?

    1. a small black dog will leap to lick your hand.

This also reminds me of the bible, to some degree. It reminds me of the garden of eden, and the serpent. The dog being the serpent.

    2. And then in turn the old black Indian came, and looking in the spring beheld the face. He knew right

Is everyone bewitched due to this "elfish" lady?

    3. he and I being of equal strength; but I believe that thou mayst conquer him, since I have found, by bitter proof, that thou canst conquer me.

This to me is a bit confusing, the strong man cant beat the elf who has the equal strength of his master. However, due to this the elf thinks the strong man can beat his master? What did I just read.

    4. little fellow came to him he seemed so famished and he shed such tears that this one also gave him leave to eat.

This reminds me of the little boy who cried wolf and the three bears stories.

    5. She loathed the life she led, and wished to leave, and live as she had done in days of old

I don't really understand this lady. She wants to live like she did before.. having your former husband "leave" you in the woods to fend for yourself.

    1. she’s merely adapting.

I love this. For many reasons, one being that I feel in order to be a great online/digital reader, you have to adapt to what is the new norm.

    2. those who had read the story in print fared significantly better, making fewer mistakes and recreating an over-all more accurate version of the story.

The reason I feel they had such an easier time with this task, is due to the fact that some books on a Kindle or any digital reader most of the time do not have page numbers. Sometimes they don't even have clear definitions of chapters. Making it harder for the reader to recall what has happened and where.

    3. The text you read on a Kindle or computer simply doesn’t have the same tangibility.

This entire paragraph is great in general, but i find this interesting as well. I love how its not the same, but it is the same. Your reading the same words, but the experience is different.

    4. Interestingly, Coiro found that gamers were often better online readers: they were more comfortable in the medium and better able to stay on task

I understand why gamers would have the ability to read better on a digital platform. However, does this mean a weak reader (gamer) would comprehend more and read better on a digital platform?

    5. Each adjustment, in turn, takes mental and physical energy.

I find this incredibly interesting, I've noticed when I read online that my eyes tend to get tired. However iI have never thought of it as taking my metal and physical energy.

    6. The screen, for one, seems to encourage more skimming behavior: when we scroll, we tend to read more quickly (and less deeply) than when we move sequentially from page to page

I find this to be very true, at least for me that is. I think thats because we view the internet as "fast and easy" it is a quick way to get information, not to spend time reading a lengthly article.
