How is it going to work to read a full-class text?
This reminds me of the site we use at my student teaching placement, Epic! Check out this link if you are interested in accessing a virtual library of books- https://www.getepic.com/app/

You can publish the assets identified - on a town or separate website, in a community newsletter, in a community service section in the local newspaper, to name just three possibilities - and make them available to all community members. In doing so, you will stimulate public asset knowledge and use.
I like the idea of publishing the assets in a community newsletter. This makes it accessible to share with others and to pull up quickly as needed. If a visitor comes to town or someone new moves in this can be accessible to share.

The central task here is to take an inventory of all the groups (associations, organizations, and institutions) that exist in your community. Y
I made a list before creating my community map of Morristown. This really helped me when adding points on my map. I added points in groupings- schools, parking, etc.

The techniques for identifying community assets aren't very hard. You don't need a lot of special training or expertise to do the job well.
As a teacher it would be a great exercise to include students in. They can offer their expertise regarding their town and you can learn from them about what the most prominent community assets are. This empowers the students because they will be offering valuable information to the teacher and it's a great opportunity for teachers to learn from their students.

It can be a person -- Residents can be empowered to realize and use their abilities to build and transform the community. The stay-at-home mom or dad who organizes a playgroup. The informal neighborhood leader. The firefighter who risks his life to keep the community safe. These are all community assets.
I never would have thought a community asset could be a person but this makes so much sense to me. I think this could also be helpful to make for your family and neighbors. Growing up we had neighbors who were police officers, EMTs, and firemen. My parents made sure that me and my sister knew who could help incase we needed it. A map of the houses with the different people would be a great idea to keep on the fridge for young children.
