    1. If assimilation is the process by which a racial or ethnic group loses its distinctive identity and lifeways and conforms to the cultural patterns of the dominant group, then submerging one’s self into the melting pot of American society means trying to be as white as possible.

This is reinforced by white Americans who praise others by saying they "sound white" or are "articulate" as if it's unexpected. These are often racist statements and "microagressions" as in, subtle ways of saying something is inferior, or someone is inferior

    2. This unfriendly environment has serious repercussions for intergroup relations by keeping them hostile.

There is much encouragement to separation of races, intolerance towards immigrants and non-white people, it will take a long time to reverse this way of thinking. It's not isolated to race, but it includes intolerance and anger towards people of other religions, genders, sexuality, ableism, and is appearance-based to idolize white, male, heterosexual, successful and youthful-looking.

    3. There is little or no support for the maintenance of cultural or linguistic differences, and groups’ rights may be violated. This belief can lead to misunderstandings when new United States residents speak, act, and believe differently than the dominant culture.

The United States has to adapt the process of honoring original culture, customs, religions while encouraging that the immigrants progress to a middle ground of speaking English language with those who only speak English, and respectfully observing American traditions and values, as long as they are not contrary to their own.

Assimilation was considered good for decades until society started to examine the racist undertones of assimilation into a predominantly white anglo saxon protestant culture. Now a mosaic culture is more preferable, for people to retain their culture of origin and assimilate in partial ways.

    1. This seems to be consistent with a much tougher stance on immigration on behalf of the Trump administration, so folks facing removal proceedings are not likely be rewarded with asylum.

It looks like the authors of this book have noted that the Trump administration curtailed much of the immigration previously sanctioned by the US.

    2. Fiscal Years 2016 to 2018

Racial profiling against immigration continued to decrease the numbers of immigrants from locations with populations of people of non-white descent.

    3. in 2018, only 25,439 people were granted asylum.

This was a direct result of Pres Trump and his administration policies against immigration and against acceptance of immigrants of color into the United States. His policies and broadcast anti-immigration views were made public and discouraged people from immigration to the United States for fear of persecution once they arrived here.
