This list is a start but why limit players to just this list? What is the NBA afraid of?

    2. When it comes to choosing a social justice phrase to put on the back of his jersey — something that could be very personal and meaningful — Scott doesn’t want to choose from a list that he and many NBA players had no input in putting together.

Not enough choice- players have to pick from one of 20 catch phrases

    3. Jaylen Brown and Mike Scott don't love NBA's list of social justice messages for jerseys

Issues already arise- its not enough of a statement.

    1. “Working together with the WNBPA and the teams, the league aims to highlight players’ social justice efforts throughout the 2020 season and beyond,” she said. “Systemic change can’t happen overnight, but it is our shared responsibility to do everything we can to raise awareness and promote the justice we hope to see in society.”

This will raise awareness - hopefully this continues to happen and more will participate - maybe the NBA will participate more after seeing this?

    2. WNBA to honor social justice movements, Black Lives Matter throughout 2020 season

I love that the WMBA is doing more than the NBA (planning to use 20 written statements"

    1. A few individuals have been misidentified in recent weeks, including a professor from Arkansas who was wrongly accused of participating in the neo-Nazi march.

This is worrying- it is important to correctly identify. This is where the vigilantism can go very wrong.#weblit and #LS121FA

    2. Online vigilantism has been around since the early days of the internet. So has “doxxing” — originally a slang term among hackers for obtaining and posting private documents about an individual, usually a rival or enemy.

I see this happen a lot with Shaun King- he often uncovers the identities of people who attack peaceful protesters. These people may otherwise never have been caught. It is online vigilantism and I get it.#weblit and #LS121FA

    1. We made a joke that maybe her new seat partner would be the love of her life and well, now I present you with this thread.

How do they find that this is acceptable? The person went out of their way to help you and you make their life public and make assumptions about a relationship. #weblit and LS121FA

    2. Thrusting random people into viral fame can be a messed-up thing to do

100% no consent was given. It was not okay.

    1. .@Jaboukie walks @MichaelKosta through some best practices for supporting Black Lives Matter as a White person.

This also speaks to me because it is a conversation that has become so common for a lot of POC. Social media trends are not social and political change.

    1. I got my name Kelly because my elementary school teacher said my Chinese name was a joke. She decided to rename me Kelly because 90210 was on and she really liked the blonde girl.

This SPEAKS to ME on so many levels. I hear things like this on a regular basis- it might be about how foreign my name is or how I should just use an easier name - people love giving examples. The polite ones tell me my name they cant say is so beautiful.

    1. Question: Is this article really by the lead singer of Green Day?

I use the onion in my classroom for this reason. I print some reasonable looking political articles and we go over them as a class to figure out if they are good sources for a research paper. Sometimes they use partial facts to trick people. Now with the Trump presidency it becomes more and more difficult to tell truth from half truths from lies.#weblit#LS121FA

    1. Strategies Focus on diversity—awareness of the diversity in communities is critical to fostering social justice Address real consequences of oppression—when discussing social justice in lessons or staff meetings, it is important to acknowledge the real social and economic disadvantages that oppressed people face in society, not simply the psychic harm of oppression Understand the mechanisms that perpetuate oppression—i.e., those attitudes and behaviors (e.g., racism, sexism, ageism, heterosexism) from a position of privilege Resist hierarchies of oppression—form strategies to foster justice with an inclusive mindset: who is being left out? Seek to address social justice on three levels—personal (self), institutional (school) and societal (community).

      Good strategies to utilize
