    1. The experienced writers see their revision process as a recursive process—a process with significant recurring activities—with different levels of attention and different agenda for each cycle.

Really good author go above and beyond when revising a piece writing. They really have to take away, add, and fix the writing to make it perfection.

    2. Two elements of the experienced writers' theory of the revision process are the adoption of a holistic perspective and the perception that revision is a recursive process.

Revision is the process of rereading a text and making changes to improve it. During the revision stage of the writing process, writers may add, remove, move and substitute text. This is a process we all need to have when writing.

    3. The analogy with music is readily seen in the compositions of experienced writers: both sorts of composition are based precisely on those structures experienced writers seek in their writing.

I love it how they connected music and writing, that is a hard skill in writing, to be able to connect to different things and make them connect.

    4. But these revision strategies are a process of more than communication; they are part of the process of discovering meaning altogether.

In order to get feedback on your work, you need others to help revise your essay. Peer feedback is key in creating a good essay.

    5. They have abstracted the standards of a reader and this reader seems to be partially a reflection of themselves and functions as a critical and productive collaborator—a collaborator who has yet to love their work.

This defiantly be helpful when working on revising a essay or a piece of writing. I am very interested in this method.

    6. After a concern for form, the experienced writers have a second objective: a concern for their readership

This is a good sentence because when reading you take other people's work and you compare it to yours when writing.

Without reading children will fall behind because of it.

Page. 8 “When I read I Am Joaquin I was surprised to see a bilingual book by a Chicano in print.” In these times it was rare to see books or any hand written things to be in two different languages.

Page. 8 “When I saw poetry written in Tex-Mex for the first time, a feeling of pure joy flashed through me. I felt like we really existed as a people.” It bring us joy to people to see our people succeed because they are from the same culture.

Page. 9 “In the 50’s and 60’s, for slightly educated and agringado Chicanos, there existed a sense of shame at being caught listening to our music” There was a lot of discrimination with even the type of music listened to. Page. 10”Being Mexican is a state of soul- not one of mind, not one of citizenship. Neither eagle nor serpent, but both” To be this culture you have to understand the trait of being that culture. They have no barriers, this is who they are.

    1. "What he want, I come to New York tell him front of his boss, youcheating me?"

I love how Amy Tan's mother stood up for herself. It is hard to stand up for yourself with a language barrier.

    2. My mother has long realized the limitations of her English as well.

My mom knew that her language of her culture was dying because she slowly stopped speaking it. She didn't realize until she couldn't speak anymore.

    3. I know this for a fact, because when I was growing up, my mother's "limited" English limited myperception of her.

I am reversed with Amy. My mother didn't speak Filipino that well and this caused me to look at her and my culture differently.

    4. Like others, I havedescribed it to people as 'broken" or "fractured" English.

TO have the same language and talk in the same accent is challenging for people that didn't start with someone's else language.

    5. But to me, my mother'sEnglish is perfectly clear, perfectly natural.

Amy is so used to her native language so when she speaks with her mother it sounds natural for her.

    6. Chinese way, came only to show respect, don't stay for dinner. Respect for making big celebration, he shows up. Meangives lots of respect.

I can relate to this because in the Filipino culture it is the same tradition. In most cultures today if you don't stay for dinner it is disrespectful. But for Amy's and mine it is the same.

    1. Now the clean up happens organically and pleasantly throughout the day. This is probably also my favorite parenting tip. It’s basically about timing. Most parents find themselves completing countless tasks for their children, but they get resistance when they make their own requests of them. So ask your kids for what you need whenever you are about to do something for them. Let them see it as a transaction. They do things for you, and then you do something for them.

I don't agree with this because in my family we don't make someone do a chore around the house. We won't bride each other to do a task for eachother.

    2. Before I started using this system, “cleaning up” was a stressful and tiring process of running all over my house. It was something I dreaded and put off until the mess really got unbearable. Now that I always have “full hands in, full hands out,” it’s something that just happens organically throughout my day. Because I’m constantly moving items closer to where they belong, the clutter never builds up.

I support this because I have the same problem. When I have a mess now I organize what I do so that the cleaning process runs more smoothly.

    1. All of this contributes to how that reader creates meaning from the text. Think about it this way: If meaning was located (or hidden) in a text then each time you read that text it would mean the same thing to you.

When reading a article, it is good to hide what the prompt is and let the reader try to understand and find out on their own.

    2. When we think about reading as an act of creation, we might imagine a reader who brings her background, previous reading experiences, culture, religion, and worldview with her to the reading.

When a article connects with the reader, this helps the read understand what the writer and trying to say.

    3. You are choosing to pay closer attention to certain parts of the text, you are slowing down in some moments, speeding up at others, maybe skipping some parts altogether

I feel this is a problem that most readers have, they read too fast. Reading fast is bad because you may not read the article and understand if you are reading too fast.

    4. These experiences can help you become an altogether stronger reader not just in this course but beyond it.

It is true, this will help us become stronger readers and help our writing.

    5. You certainly know how to decode language in the ways reading is described in the open-ing to this introduction, and you can understand certain types of texts.

We all as students and teachers need to know how to properly decode language.

    6. Although you may be using this textbook in an English or writing course, these reading strat-egies are useful across disciplines.

I thought was interesting because I believe every reader needs to use their textbook.
