I think in general, there will never be a universal agreement. There are still going to be people who are not satisfied with the choices that people make especially in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, etc.

This kind of reminds me of the time when there was a rise in gender neutral pronouns, so there are now more choices in pronouns on paperwork or everyday information.
