    1. She burns like a burning bushdriven by a godawful wind.

      The last simile in this poem is a powerful one as bushfires are extremely destructive yet it could have somewhat of a positive spin on it as after forest fires burn they reset the local ecosystems an increase biodiversity. So he could be saying that mankind needed this "fire" in order for us to learn to do better in the future.

    2. She rises like dragonsmoke    to my nostrils.

      Now the fire is right on him meaning he could be describing the enemy now, as it rises to his nostrils as if it is right under him.

    3. She burns like a shot glass of vodka.She burns like a field of poppies

      Now he is back to the burning alliteration and this event or object is now burning things that bring happiness to people like a field of poppies, and sadly for some vodka brings them happiness, as it probably did to the soldieries of the war.

    4. A tiger under a rainbow   at nightfall.

      Though he now describes the object or event as silent, but its a dangerous silence, like a tiger stalking in the night, though the rainbow shows the perception of this event or object by others.

    5. She glows like the fat tipof a banker's cigar,

      All of these similes and analogies of fire could be talking about the war itself since it was such a hellish place for a man to be, as it could all just be described as fire.

    6. We stand with our handshanging at our sides,while she burns

      Now it seems to have shifted to an event or object that they are referring to as "she" instead of an actual girl. This could be the flamethrowers that caused mass destruction and fires used in the Vietnam war.

      And no matter what happens between them the perfect idea of what their relationship could be draws them back to one another time after time.

    2. And when we go crashing down, we come back every time

      They are attracted to the idea of each other but not the real people both of them are, which is why they never work out but then they think of that false idea of what they were and they go back to one another.

      He confirms these accusations as true, but says she means the most which is a lie to keep her with him when it is convenient.

    4. he can't keep his wild eyes on the road

      Describing his eyes as wild, showing his character and the type of person he is, as he gets distracted by beauty and looks, and doesn't care for what's on the inside.

    5. Cause we never go out of style,

      They never stop having what each other want yet their personalities clash so they can never stay together long. She then repeats it to add emphasis.

    6. when we go crashing down, we come back every time

      Yet they can never make it work, though since they have what each other wants they forget the bad things and go back to one another every time.

    7. Long drive, could end in burning flames or paradise

      The long drive symbolizes their relationship, and she is saying once again that there are only too possible outcomes of this relationship and both are polar opposites and very extreme.

      By gathering strength and growing stronger you are able to heal yourself and enhance your life. She is saying this as if to help others who might go through what she is.

      Meaning when her life is dry and barren to where it feels meaningless, since she repeats it for emphasis this must be quite severe.

      Revealing very early that she is in a dark and hard place in her life, yet she looks to this person for relief.

      Going back to the title and her only request, that he says he will remember her with warm and happy memories.

      Saying when you leave me like it is the only possible outcome, yet these memories they made will follow him months later and he might even want her back.

      The use of the word hindsight refers to him looking back on this relation ship and remember all of the crazy and fun things they did together.

      She has the same request, which is just for him to remember how good they were together, which is strange since girls usually want you to promise to never leave them or don't cheat on them yet she doesn't care about any of that.

      She knows this will end soon and end badly, yet their relationship is growing and getting even better.

      She also likes this idea of privacy as the boy describes in the first line. Which could allude that they are outcasts and like isolation or are already isolated.

      She also wants him to tell her he will see her again to make her happy and give her hope even if he knows he will only ever see her again in his dreams.

      She is saying that she just wants to be remembered as beautiful and be associated with happiness. Which shows that her other ex-boyfriends only think of her as crazy and out of control.

      Due to her prior experiences with men, since she likes "bad boys," they all ended the same. Which explains why she is speaking like they have already broke up when they haven't even started dating.

      In this line she reflects that she had already fallen for him yet she didn't want to since nothing lasts forever, and this breakup is going to be hard on her.

      He in this situation is either her boyfriend or a new boy who wants to be her girlfriend. He is wanting to get out of the city to be in private from everyone else and be alone with this girl so he can focus on only what he wants most, which would be her.

      Is she talking about a crazy dream she had, or the more likely option of she is dreaming about something crazy she wishes to happen in her future, or maybe reflecting on something of hers in the past that was dream like.

      Then the guard loses his balance and falls to the floor in a heap which conflicts with the former elegant way he was described.

      Yet in the heat of the moment and the whole poem leading up to this at the climax the poem is calm and has a gentle tone.

    3. while the power-forward explodes past them    in a fury, taking the ball into the air

      The forward now has the ball and is on the breakaway then he reaches the rim and jumps with the ball into the air.

    4. in slow motion, almost exactly like a coach’s drawing on the blackboard,

      Everything in this play is so perfect it is described like the drawing the coach did on the white board, in this simile.

    5. a man    letting the play develop in front of him

      Describing the defender from the opposing team as he watches the play develop in front of him, without taking action.

    6. and spinning around to throw a strike    to the outlet who is already shoveling

      Using this fast pace of language to make the reader feel more engulfed in the poem, and create the tension that would arise if you were in the stadium watching the game live.

    7. gathering the orange leather    from the air like a cherished possession

      These lines use imagery to make the reader feel like they are there watching this elegant game of basketball, as the center is described as holding the ball "like a cherished possession."

    8. and for once our gangly starting center    boxes out his man and times his jump

      This conveys that the team that is being described might not be that good at basket ball, as it says "for once" as if they don't make a good play that often.

      Repeating the same lines again, to ad emphasis.

      Repeating this line again so now the man who she is talking to has learned all of these things about her, she is saying that she will still date him if he is still interested, with everything taken into account.

      Says it twice to emphasize it. And she thinks that her love is torture yet she believes this is what boys want. She is also saying this as a warning to him that this relationship is going to be like torture.

      Repeating what she said in earlier lines to emphasize that these lines are important.

      She does acknowledge that they will have a lot of fun together yet when its over they will both be in pain emotionally.

      Though she says he will leave and break up with her, she believes that her looks will bring him crawling back to her again.

      She changes so much so fast that she thinks her partner will question if it is even the same person, which says a lot about her personality.

      Then there seems to be a flip where everything is horible and she is kind of describing herself as crazy. An she seems to be kind of hungry for power in the relationship as she says "I can make all the tables turn."

      Talking about how she will be a great companion for about a month, which is what some people refer to as the "honey moon period." then after about a month her true self will show.

      She is saying that she has taken all of these things into account in the lines above, and has this horrible history. But she wants to be in a relationship with him right now and is willing to "write his name" in the said blank space.

      She believes that they like the idea of each or the person they would want the other person to be, but not actually liking each other for who they are.

      Listing the two possible outcomes of this relationship and both are very extreme on opposite ends of the spectrum.

      This shows that the guy she is referring to maybe isn't a very good person either, and she has the false sense that she can change him.

      She assumes that this relationship will be a mistake, which tells us how her past relationships have gone.

      In this line she is describing what it will be like being with her in a relationship. Showing that she is very moody and somewhat bi polar.

      She believes she would be so good at ballet if she knew how that she would make even the Prima mad, because of how good she thinks she would be.

      Yet no one "boasts" her meaning that she isn't advertised or known. She is still "full as Opera" showing that in her mind she is known.

    3. Nor tossed my shape in Eider Balls,Nor rolled on wheels of snow

      Saying that she wouldn't try that hard and not really work at these things she is trying to achieve, though at the surface she is still talking about her ballet skills.
