    1. Therefore let everyone that is out of Christ, now awake and fly from the wrath to come. The wrath of almighty God is now undoubtedly hanging over great part of this congregation: let everyone fly out of Sodom. Haste and escape for your lives, look not behind you, escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed

This reminds me of the book of Micah 6:8 ,He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good ;and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.

    2. And now you have an extraordinary opportunity, a day wherein Christ has flung the door of mercy wide open, and stands in the door calling and crying with a loud voice to poor sinners; a day wherein many are flocking to him, and pressing into the kingdom of God

This is where he shifts the energy and now starts depicting how to please God and stopping him from casting you to hell. The simplicity of walking and spreading his word. Once the belief of God spread the more people believed and trusted in him to seek his word and knowledge.

    3. there is no other reason to be given why you han’t gone to hell since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship: yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you don’t this very moment drop down into hell.

I like how he says this, even while you sit in this place of solemn worship , meaning I'm speaking to the ones sitting here as if your sinful ways actions and thoughts go unnoticed by God. I'm speaking to the ones whom mimic and pretend that you don't know of your wrong ways and continue to dwell in the house of the lord and mock this precious pity God has on you. wrong instead of doing what's right. Even you continue to act as if you don't notice the mercy God on you.

    4. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect, over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked; his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times so abominable in his eyes as the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours.

In this description, the comparison of man to a insect, and the level of rage and anger towards our stubborn and sinful ways depicts that God is disappointed in a way that can't be over turned. The excerpt describes that we are more minuet then even a bug. That we have committed the ultimate sin that cannot be forgiven. The most heinous sin "ten thousand times" worst then the biggest sin, yet even in the mist of this rage God still keeps you out the pits of hell.

    5. That world of misery, that lake of burning brimstone is extended abroad under you. There is the dreadful pit of the glowing flames of the wrath of God; there is hell’s wide gaping mouth open; and you have nothing to stand upon, nor anything to take hold of: there is nothing between you and hell but the air; ’tis only the power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up.

Jonathan Edwards uses the word "misery" to depict the time and setting of a great sorrow or sad era. Like saying in this time while at your worst. This one word describes the trying times that the people were going through. In the next line the depiction and visual description of hell was unimaginable versus modern day image. "a wide gaping mouth open" describes this bottomless flame of horror, that only God's mercy to is keeping you from "tis only the power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up".
