      I think for me it's not just the essay that was ruined for me in a lot of ways but it was writing in general, in the context of public school. Now that I write more often in my free time, I look forward to seeing what I can do

      in high school math class I had a teacher that would only accept work that was done using his method, not any other method taught in the book. I think the discouraging of different writing styles works as the same type of issue.

      like was said before- writing can be a great way to express something you're not sure to express so you work on it molding it slowly.

    2. simple structure is something I have ripped off a thousand times, both in my essays and my own journal,

      writing in someways if you really like writing or books you'll find that authors want to write like other authors. My friend told me about something Charles Bukouski said about Hemingway, how he really wrote blocky and how that blockiness lost the beauty of the words but how Sherwood Anderson who both Hemingway and Bukouski love wrote like as if he was painting with his words.

    3. There’s an essay by Sherman Alexie called “Why the Best Kids Books Are Written in Blood” that reminded me of how a story can save us. There’s an essay by James Baldwin that reminds me, over and over again, of how writing is a part of the healing process. There’s an essay by Lindy West called “Hello, I am Fat” that made me feel less alone

      Essays much like other forms of media can be enjoyed just the same or save someone as this refers to, it moght be a matter of finding what you like.
