    1. If you could magically change anything about how social media sites are designed, what would it be?

I wanted to design the social media cites with focuses more on visualizing the connection between users, and posts. Letting people easier to trace the source and line of spreading of a certain information.

    1. What different values would be embedded and what would that look like?

we can clearly see a difference in social media from various countries. Although twitter and instagrams are the most used applications, there are apps that subjects to different cultures. For example, the mainland Chinese people uses qq, an app that focuses on the group chat feature between friends, it is also powerful that the qq account can be linked to the gaming accounts. I think this is from a different cultural customs that Chinese people tend to build many different groups for people involved in different activities, even in families.

    1. What do you consider to be the most important factors in making an instance of public shaming bad?

I think that the most factor making the instance of public shaming bad is that the public part amplified the natural reaction of feeling shamed, which is to hide it from people.

    1. Guilt is the feeling that “This specific action I did was bad,” and the natural response to feeling of guilt is for the guilty person to want to repair the harm of their action.

My question is that can shame and guilt come in the same way or they have to be separated.

    1. How do social media platforms make harassment possible?

One key point is that social media has made harassment more easier and protects the assailant by somewhat covering their real identity.

    1. Do you believe crowd harassment is ever justified?

Personally, I think that crowd harassment is should never be justified since many crowd group was too large and too separated to contribute to the same cause. For all the people involved, it is almost always that some of the people are with negative intentions. However, from past history, we have seen many justified public harassments such as the witch hunt.

    1. power users who do the majority of the contributions, and a very large group of lurkers who contribute little to nothing

I felt this very resembles the real world where a small group of people contribute the larger portion of the work, where the rest of the people do not.

    1. A site when you can pay for crowdsourcing small tasks (e.g., pay a small amount for each task, and then let a crowd of people choose to do the tasks and get paid).

I would like to comment on this piece of info that many smaller tech tasks are completed the similar way that the code are open sourced and anyone can make an edition to it. The best designed will be rewarded financially by the company.

    1. In unmoderated online spaces who has the most power and ability to speak and be heard? Who has the least power and ability to speak and be heard?

In my opinion, with an unmoderated online space, the people who are good as establishing their online character/profile are having the most power to convey their messages. The people who are not able to construct their profile well will have the least.

    1. here they wouldn’t ban them even if they violated site policies (most notably applied to Donald Trump)

Personally, I do believe that the celebrities have more creditability when it comes to posting on social media; however, this may lead to unethical issues like the equal rights of speech.

    1. they can try to use data mining to figure out information about their users’ moods, mental health problems, or neurotypes (e.g., ADHD, autism).

This is actually so effective since I have seen so many people regretted that that have seen signs before a person commit suicide and decided to neglected it. However, it raises the new ethical question of if these algos are limited based on the privacy rules.

    1. when these difficult emotions and experiences are thrown at unsuspecting and unwilling audiences,

It is very interesting to think about these Trauma Dumping since my mom gets anxious and nervous about these unrelated trauma that is posted on social media. I think we ought to teach our kids in the public education about how to deal with these info.

    1. Consider impact vs. intent. For example, consequentialism only cares about the impact of an action. How do you feel about the importance of impact and intent in the design of recommendation algorithms?

If we focus on the consequence of the recommendation algorithm, it is easy to bring a selective exposure for users. This is not the original intent, but it would separate people in the away of their info sources.

    1. quote tweeting,

One key point of replication I wanted to point out would be the reposting between different platforms. For example screen recording something on tik tok and post it on Instagram. This is essential since different since during this process, some key information would be lost such as the original poster, the original sound and many more, where it show no consistency for the piece of information.

    1. which is when one cultural group adopts something from another culture in an unfair or disrespectful way (as opposed to a fair, respectful cultural exchange).

I think it is really hard to determine the outcome of the cultural appropriation since during vast years of history, cultural syncretism is the main way of spreading and building upon others, aka be more advanced in technology. Cultural appropriation is easily a bi product of cultural syncretism, and it is very difficult to determine if a group adopts something in an unfair way.

    1. This type of situation, where information or actions that make sense for one audience get shared with another audience is called “context collapse.”

I think this issue happens in real life conversations too. For example, telling a small group of people a "secret" and having some of them "snitch" on you. However, on social media, the spread of the info and the size of the group is magnified which can leads to more challenges
