    1. “The back-and-forth attacks in Syria, Iraq and Jordan — not to mention the tit-for-tat strikes that the United States and its allies have exchanged with the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen — have edged the region closer to a broader conflict, even as the administration insists it does not want war with Iran.”

makes it seem like it probably isn't real even though 100 unarmed people were killed, which is really disappointing.

    2. What Was Published “More than 25,000 Gazans have been killed so far, most of them civilians, according to health authorities in the enclave, following a punishing counterattack by Israel.” Our Suggested Edit “Israel has killed more than 25,000 Gazans so far, most of them civilians.” Why The Times uses the passive voice to avoid plainly stating the truth — that Israel has killed thousands of people. The Times’ own reporting does not suggest any disagreement over who murdered these people. The choice of passive voice distances Israel from its actions. This is a chronic issue, especially in the Times’ headlines.

the passive voices hides that isreal killed over 25k gazans, most being civillians.

    3. Why The Times’ use of the word “terrorism” ignores the decades of occupation and apartheid that preceded the attack, as well as the legal right of Palestinians to armed struggle. While the majority of the Israeli dead were civilians, more than one-third, or about 370 people, were members of Israeli security forces. Moreover, it is still not known how many Israelis were killed by IOF friendly fire. By comparison, 70% of the Palestinians — more than 21,000 people — that Israel has killed since October 7 were women and children, and yet The Times never accuses Israel of committing terrorist attacks. For The Times, “terrorist” is a moniker reserved for those who attack U.S. allies, especially if the alleged attackers are Muslim or Arab.

calling the attack "terrorism" hides the context, white isreali actions that killed many palestinians are not called terrorism.

    4. “The Israeli military suffered the deadliest day of its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip on Monday when 24 soldiers were killed, about 20 of them in an explosion as they were preparing to level buildings to help create a buffer zone with the Palestinian enclave, Israeli officials said.” Our Suggested Edit “An Israeli military blast that was intended to destroy Palestinian civilian homes — a possible violation of the Geneva Conventions — instead killed about 20 Israeli soldiers during the military’s ground invasion of Palestine.”

the army attacked its own soldiers, and leaving that out hides the truth about violence.

    1. We who are confined within the grey walls of the Pretoria regime's prisons reach out to our people. With you we count those who have perished by means of the gun and the hangman's rope. We salute all of you - the living, the injured and the dead. For you have dared to rise up against the tyrant's might.

i believe it states how people hate apartheid more, and that in that moment white rule is shrinking.

    2. The revulsion of the world against apartheid is growing and the frontiers of white supremacy are shrinking. Mozambique and Angola are free and the war of liberation gathers force in Namibia and Zimbabwe. The soil of our country is destined to be the scene of the fiercest fight and the sharpest battles to rid our continent of the last vestiges of white minority rule.

African countries are becoming free, and south africa will face intense battles to the end.

    3. Apartheid is the embodiment of the racialism, repression and inhumanity of all previous white supremacist regimes. To see the real face of apartheid we must look beneath the veil of constitutional formulas, deceptive phrases and playing with words.

It says that apartheid id the same kind of racist and cruel system as past white regimes, hidden behind false words and law.

    4. We face an enemy that is deep rooted, an enemy entrenched and determined not to yield. Our march to freedom is long and difficult. But both within and beyond our borders the prospects of victory grow bright. The first condition for victory is black unity. Every effort to divide the blacks, to woo and pit one black group against another, must be vigorously repulsed. Our people - African, Coloured, Indian and democratic whites - must be united into a single massive and solid wall of resistance, of united mass action. Our struggle is growing sharper. This is not the time for the luxury of division and disunity. At all levels and in every walk of life we must close ranks. Within the ranks of the people differences must be submerged to the achievement of a single goal - the complete overthrow of apartheid and racist domination.

All black people and allies must unite and work together to end racism, and white supremacy.

    5. he gun has played an important part in our history. The resistance of the black man to white colonial intrusion was crushed by the gun. Our struggle to liberate ourselves from white domination is held in check by force of arms. From conquest to the present the story is the same. Successive white regimes have repeatedly massacred unarmed defenceless blacks. And wherever and whenever they have pulled out their guns the ferocity of their fire has been trained on the African people.

I believe it talks about how guns have always been used by white rulers in order to keep blacvk people under control, or their control.

    1. We do not need to apologize for this because it is true that the white systems have produced throughout the world a number of people who are not aware that they too are people. Our adherence to values that we set for ourselves can also not be reversed because it will always be a lie to accept white values as necessarily the best. The fact that a synthesis may be attained only relates to adherence to power politics. Someone somewhere along the line will be forced to accept the truth and here we believe that ours is the truth.

id like to believe this talked about hoe black people should follow their own vakues and not accept white values as the best because they believe the truth is on their side.

    2. This definition illustrates to us a number of things:Being black is not a matter of pigmentation–being black is a reflection of a mental attitude.Merely by describing yourself as black you have started on a road towards emancipation, you have committed yourself to fight against all forces that seek to use your blackness as a stamp that marks you out as a subservient being.

talks about hoe black people are divided by stereotypes, although they all face the samr systrem and should all work together.

    3. What we should at all times look at is the fact that:We are all oppressed by the same system. That we are oppressed to varying degrees is a deliberate design to stratify us not only socially but also in terms of the enemy’s aspirations. Therefore it is to be expected that in terms of the enemy’s plan there must be this suspicion and that if we are committed to the problem of emancipation to the same degree it is part of our duty to bring to the black people the deliberateness of the enemy’s subjugation scheme. That we should go on with our programme, attracting to it only committed people and not just those eager to see an equitable distribution of groups amongst our ranks. This is a game common amongst liberals. The one criterion that must govern all our action is commitment.

This part states how black people are all hurt by the same system that tried to divide ot tear them apart. So they talk about working together with those who are really and truly committed.

    4. These in fact are the greatest racists for they refuse to credit us any intelligence to know what we want. Their intentions are obvious; they want to be barometers by which the rest of the white society can measure feelings in the black world. This then is what makes us believe that white power presents itself as a totality not only provoking us but also controlling our response to the provocation. This is an important point to note because it is often missed by those who believe that there are a few good whites. Sure there are few good whites just as much as there are a few bad blacks.

This passage states that some white people acted as if black people couldn't think for themselves and tried to control how they felt and responded.

    5. It is true that the history of weaker nations is shaped by bigger nations, but nowhere in the world today do we see whites exploiting whites on scale even remotely similar to what is happening in South Africa. Hence, one is forced to conclude that it is not coincidence that black people are exploited. It was a deliberate plan which has culminated in even so-called black independent countries not attaining any real independence.

This is talking about how Black Consciousness grew because of white colonizers who oppressed black people around the world.

    1. Farm workers and their families are exposed to pesticides from the crops they work. The soil the cropsare grown in. Drift from sprays applied to adjoining fields-and often to the very field where they areworking. The fields that surround their homes are heavily and repeatedly sprayed. Pesticides pollute irrigationwater and groundwater.Children are still a big part of the labor force. Or they are taken to the fields by their parents becausethere is no child care.

This explains the life of farm workers and what they go through, these stories and facts are being told in order to help the workers receive healthier working conditions.

    2. Felipe's mother, Ramona, worked in the grapes near Delano until she was in her eighth month ofpregnancy. She was exposed to Captan, known to cause birth defects and one of the pesticides ourgrape boycott seeks to ban

This is another case thats being described, a boy known as Felipe, was born with no limbs or legs, his mother was exposed to pesticides without knowing the harm they did to her, during her pregnancy.

    3. His parents, Juan and Elia, are farm workers. Like all grape workers, they are exposed to pesticidesand other agricultural chemicals. Elia worked in the table grapes around Delano, California until shewas eight months pregnant with Johnn

I believe they share the stories of farm workers, who suffered the consequences of pesticides. For example, Johnnie, who suffered with cancer.

    1. This starts off with how Malcom X's life was, such as changing his name during prison, and promoted his ideas with the nation of islam. He changed his beliefs to support unity in civil rights during a trip. Sadly he was assassinated soon after.

I believe this is trying to demonstrate how black women writers are not very represented, even with all the contributions they have done. I think it just points out sexism and racism due to the invisibility black women writers go through.

this basically highlights how girls, especially black girls in this case, and are often punished for speaking out. It points out that the struggle isn't really to speak but to be heard and share opinions.

In a black community, talking back to authority was portrayed as something disrespectful. I despise how having an opinion was such a bad thing.
