These are very powerful and really support the image of the child. The Early Childhood Standards in our state have been a staff conversation of lately. We recently had a parent ask about them and if we are meeting the needs of their child in that way to help them be" ready for Kindergarten." These eight concepts have such a deeper meaning of the "whole child."

    1. Children involved in their learning experiences showing their competencies in different expressive languages

This reminds me a little bit of Howard Garner and his Different Multiple Intelligences. How each child learns differently. Expression is so important for children. They need these opportunities.

    2. When the Eye Jumps Over the Wall (1980) and The Hundred Languages of Children (1987)

    1. It is a path that takes time -time that children have and adults often do not, or do not wanl to have.

This is so true. I think that adults not taking the time is a societal issue that we have. Our society is do more, have more, and as fast as we can, there is a need to be first and the best. And that is being taught to our kids.

This is going to become the next topic of our next teacher staff meeting. It is so important for us as early childhood professionals to have this become the foundation for the learning in our programs.

    2. The role of the teacher as program planner emphasizes the role of creator of the environment as a third teacher.

This is one area that I have thought I have always excelled in. But as I reflect on this (yes our spaces do look beautiful in regards to design, organization and materials), but who are they set up for. Me, the parents, or the kids? As we explore those context more I may sit down with our children and ask them what they would like to see in our spaces, so I can learn more what it is they need from me as a co- constructor.

I love this, one community. The sense of belonging that those children have to feel. I'm determined to create this same atmosphere and culture within our program, among our students, teachers, parents, and even the community.

I am always so amazed at how intuitive kids are, even at such a young age having this understanding that even so many adults do not!

    1. We don’t want to teach childrensomething that they can learn by themselves.

This can be a difficult concept for most teachers in today's society. Many teachers that I have had interactions with in the past have that need to have complete control or they feel they are not teaching.

This correlates well with what we are discussing in Our Observation class. How every day our personal biases change with each day and personal experience we have. And how it affect our perceptions daily and how that is ever changing.

That commitment for educators to continuously stay up on ever growing research, and even just going back to past philosophers, for reminders, and ways to connect in their daily classroom is hard to find in today's society (at least it is where I am from). For those staff members to have the mindset that they are professionals is a rare find sometimes. We have just hired new staff, and am very excited, because this team values themselves as facilitators in the classroom, and understand the importance of their role.

This sense of community and collaboration with the parents, and them finding such value in their child's learning is incredible. This has me wondering what our school could look like with this type of essential participation.
