- Citizens on the ground that use the water are also in trouble, the water may be worse than the air as rivers and lakes have poor sewage treatment and dead pigs floating atop the major river of Shanghai. Some rivers are so polluted, fish cannot survive, and end up dying.
- A nonprofit group shows study and statistics that 39% of China's seven main river basins were way to polluted for general use such as swimming and fishing. Only 42% of are deemed fit for swimming and fishing, while 8% was even unfit for industrial/factory use. Overall, this shows that half of China's water sources are too dirty for safe consumption.
