    1. We have a great national opportunity-to ensure that every child, in every school, is challenged by high standards, ... to build a culture of achievement that matches the optimism and aspirations of our country.

Education is important for youth, and for the public. The public should learning basic knowledge as United State citizens since everyone should vote for the president for this nation. Under such policy everyone should able to have resources to achieve at least equitable education quality to learning. Especially for children and youth to help them develop their thinking.

    2. Desegregation enhanced the long-term life chances of many African American students and rarely hurt white students, but the movement to complete or maintain it has largely been over for 2 5 years.

I have taken other education classes before and this reminds me the education segregation back to the 19 Century. The Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board all shown the history process how African Americans are fighting and protect their civil rights. In that case, inequalities in education never achieve real fair --- white race always share the top resources than other races in the United State in my point of view.

    3. Most Americans believe that everyone has the right to pursue success but that only some deserve to win, based on their tal-ent, effort, or ambition. The American dream is egalitarian at the starting point in the "race of life," but not at the end. That is not the paradox; it is simply an ideological choice. The paradox stems from the fact that the success of one generation depends at least partly on the success of their parents or guardians. People who succeed get to keep the fruits of their labor and use them as they see fit; if they buy a home in a place where the schools are better, or use their superior resources to make the schools in their neighborhood better, their chil-dren will have a head start and other children will fall behind through no fault of their own. The paradox lies in the fact that schools are supposed to equal-ize opportunities across generations and to create democratic citizens out of each generation, but people naturally wish to give their own children an ad-vantage in attaining wealth or power, and some can do it. When they do, every-one does not start equally, politically or economically. This circle cannot be squared

I personally believe everyone has right to chase dreams and pursue success in their life. However, my opinion is built based on human equality. But unfortunately there is no such equality in the society, even if we are talking about relatively equality here. I strongly agree with the statement that the higher SES, the greater chance to pursue success.

    4. T HE AMERICAN DREAM IS A POWERFUL CONCEPT. It encourages each person who lives in the United States to pursue success, and it cre-ates the framework within which everyone can do it. It holds each person responsible for achieving his or her own dreams, while generating shared values and behaviors needed to persuade Americans that they have a real chance to achieve them. It holds out a vision of both individual success and the col-lective good of all

I have heard American Dream when I was in high school. This term seems like an important word in American history and even now. Many people were boosted from the term American Dream even myself, It's basically inspired people chasing their dreams by hard working. It is about how United State works -- Democracy, liberty and independent.
