    4. Automation is coming of age. Automation is already an integral part of the modern enterprise. Respondents also cite AI and analytics as crucial components of enabling intelligent automation. More and more process work is pivoting to machines. The volume of work performed by intelligent machines is increasing rapidly, and many organizations are taking advantage of automation to derive meaning from a deluge of process data. Respondents are expecting the volume of both complex and routine decisions executed by machines to grow by about 50% between 2021 and 2023. As automation approaches integrate AI and other cognitive technologies into the mix, organizations will move even more process work to machines. Highly scaled automation deployments are rare (for now). Only 8% of respondents report having deployed automation at a significant scale. Most organizations implement automation piecemeal, targeting process pain points rather than integrating processes into a workflow. This strategy will change as enterprises see the value of implementing increasingly sophisticated automation toolsets across business functions and focus on supporting employees in the new way of work. The more you augment processes, the greater the returns. Respondents who have augmented more business processes with automation, AI, and analytics are realizing greater outcomes than those with fewer augmented processes. The areas of higher performance include operational efficiency, decision making, reduced risk, and a better customer experience. Scaling automation requires new skills and organizational models. As automation in the workplace grows, organizations will increasingly need soft skills such as decision making, learning, and creativity. The radical shift will happen when automation moves beyond a series of isolated initiatives to the defining factor in a workflow, reshaping how the enterprise performs work.

Five emerging themes of automation - Very useful information to look at Automation will increase technologies and will experience improvements in operational efficiency, decision-making speed, and overall business performance, leading to a powerful competitive advantage in their respective industries.

    1. There are larger societal trends that are impacting what consumers seek travel, and we think this has implications for the Airbnb and hotel dynamic. These trends include:

Social trends that are impacting what consumers seek travel, and we think this has implications for the Airbnb and hotel dynamic. These trends are very interesting so take a look

    2. For a long time, the hotel industry did not consider Airbnb a threat. Both the industry and Airbnb claimed they were serving different markets and had different underlying business models. Over the years, as Airbnb become more successful and grown to being larger than the companies in the hotel industry, the rhetoric has changed. The hotel industry began to realize they had something to worry about.

An interesting aspect to explore could be annotations related to collaborative efforts within the hotel industry. This might involve partnerships between hotels or the industry's collective response to the challenges presented by Airbnb.

    3. Placing an emphasis on humanity and providing a sense of hospitableness can also enhance a brand’s EVP. Instead of technology replacing the human connection, the industry needs to look for ways in which technology can actually free up employees so that they can spend their time crafting more personal and unique experiences, delighting guests instead of performing routine transactions. Moreover, if the human connection is what people seek out when traveling with Airbnb, why is it that hotel confirmation emails still get sent out by automated systems that highlight the “facelessness” of the hotel entity. Why not use that as an opportunity to truly welcome the guest; a simple touch such as a welcome letter from the GM with his/her photo, or that of an employee who is “assigned” as “your personal host” during your stay can go a long way in emulating the human connection that the sharing economy enables.

As the article discusses the impact of Airbnb's technological platform, annotations could explore how hotels are integrating technology into their operations. This might include mobile check-ins, smart room features, or other technological advancements to enhance guest experiences.

    4. While regulation is outside the control of the hotel industry, the brand and the customer experience are not. We contend that these are the areas where hotel companies’ efforts need to be focused. Hotels need to re-think the brand promise, both for the parent brand as well as individual brands in the portfolio, and how it defines and shapes the guest experience.

There is potential to annotate insights related to guest satisfaction and experience. Hotels may focus on personalized services or unique offerings to compete with the unique experiences often associated with Airbnb. This could be an area for further exploration.

    5. In sum, hotels must adopt a sales, marketing, and revenue management approach that is both strategic and tactical. At a strategic level, hotel brands need to re-think their story, and how they portray and fulfill their authenticity and brand promises. At a tactical level, it’s the experience and value beyond the guestroom that must be factored into what is presented to current and potential guests, what they are charged for it, and how it is leverage to create “memorable memories” that lead to higher net promotor scores and brand loyalty. We present a graphical summary of the past, present, and future of Airbnb vs. hotels in Figure 2.

Considering the impact of Airbnb on pricing dynamics, annotations might delve into how hotels are adapting their revenue management strategies. This could involve exploring the integration of dynamic pricing models or other innovative approaches.

    6. Finally, the role of the loyalty program cannot be emphasized enough. Loyalty programs must move beyond programmatic levels to being able to leverage data from guest history, social media, and other marketing data sources, powered by predictive analytics, to personalize and individualize the guest experience of the brand. In an age of instant gratification, the loyalty program has to be gamified to unlock value-adds and offer creative bundling.

This section implies that successful hotels are likely to invest in digital marketing and branding strategies to differentiate themselves from Airbnb. In this case it's mentioning how loyalty programs could be helpful and be used as a strategic move.
