    1. The Titan launched at 6 a.m. Sunday and was reported overdue that afternoon about 435 miles (700 kilometers) south of St. John’s, Newfoundland. By Thursday, when the oxygen supply was expected to run out, there was little hope of finding the crew alive.

again this detail Is not included in most of the other stories.

    2. “These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans,” OceanGate said in a statement. “We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew.”

this makes it seems as though oceangate had no idea that their ship was faulty and that they are truly upset about what is happening.

    3. consistent with an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost,” a senior Navy official told The Associated Press on Thursday.

this gives more context as to why they believe that it was the titan.

    4. A submersible carrying five people to the Titanic imploded near the site of the shipwreck and killed everyone on board, authorities said Thursday, bringing a tragic end to a saga that included an urgent around-the-clock search and a worldwide vigil for the missing vessel.

This is the first article that talks about this starting from the beginning, the others have started in the middle presuming everyone else know what is happening.

    1. information about its detection was "immediately" shared with an incident commander to "assist with the ongoing search and rescue mission."

It was not made public because they were unsure of what was happenign but they did report it immediately,

    2. "The implosion of a pressure hull such as the Titan is going to be a violent, almost explosive phenomenon," said Eggers. "So it will certainly register for those very sensitive hydrophones. And at the same time, it's a very dynamic environment ... the acoustics of the undersea environment are very dynamic, very complex."

This gives good detail of why the coast guard cannot be sure but also can be sure of what happened.

    3. "an anomaly consistent with an implosion or explosion" that happened "in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost," about one hour and 45 minutes into the vessel's dive on Sunday.

Everyone has the same constant level and time of when the sub got lost. Which helps the narrative that what is truly happening. Allowing them to build credibility.

    4. old Newsweek that all five occupants had "sadly been lost."

On this article, there claim that all of the occupants where dead however, in another article they say that they are presummed dead. This shows that they are dead. This adds to the narrative that they dont know yet, they do assume that they are dead, so that they have empathy for these people.

    5. The U.S. Navy may have detected the sound of the Titan submersible imploding on Sunday but faced a "complex" task and "uncertainty" as a frantic search for the vessel continued this week, according to a former Navy officer.

Here, this article focuses on not placing the blame on the navy but rather focuses on how they had to continue the search because they could not be sure that the ship had actually imploded.

    1. Experts say wrongful death and negligence lawsuits are also likely next in the Titan case — and they could be successful. But legal actions will face various challenges, including waivers likely signed by the Titan passengers that warned of the myriad ways they could die.

It is important to notice that the passangers did sign waviers knowing that they could die from this trip. This is somethign that the social media outlooks picked up on immediately that most news outlets left out. This builds the narrative that these people went willingly and may be the only reason that Oceangate does not get sued.

    2. The vessel suffered a catastrophic implosion, killing all five aboard, sometime after it submerged Sunday morning. It’s not clear exactly when or where the implosion occurred, but a U.S. Navy acoustics system detected an “anomaly” Sunday that was likely the Titan’s fatal implosion.

this article is merely compiling all of the stories into one coherrant story. This is not a bad thing just an observation. However, the way they are framing this seems to show that these Coast guard heard the noise and reported it at first. However, the media did not pick up on this until after the remains were found on thursday.

    1. OceanGate's own former director of marine operations also flagged potential safety issues with the Titan around the same time — and says he was fired after doing so, as NPR station WBUR reported.

This is something that needs to be addressed. Most of the articles are saying that they still need to find who is truly at fault. Social media is saying that it is the passangers own faults because they paid all this money, and signed a waver know that this could lead to death. This article appears to have the bias of Oceangate knowing about these faulties and choosing to ignore them

    2. "We have submarines all over the world diving 12,000 to 20,000 feet every day of the year for research," he said. "We know very well how to build and how to design these machines and how to operate them safely." The same is true for tourism purposes, he adds: "It just gets expensive."

This was part of peoples anger that came about. I think this article provides good feedback on the mechanics of the ship showing that oceangate is at fault for people missing and ending in death. However, it does not add as much to the narrative as it could because it just claims that Oceangate is at fault.

    3. "It hasn't surprised us," said Will Kohnen, the chair of the Marine Technology Society's Submarine Committee (formerly the Manned Underwater Vehicles Committee), about the Titan's disappearance. "We've been aware of this project for some time and have had some concerns."

The chairman of the board was aware of this and did not stop the vessel from launching. This was not made aware to the public right away when the story broke.

    4. Experts from within and outside OceanGate raised concerns about the safety of its Titan submersible as far back as 2018,

This is important to note that the there were safety concerns before these people went done. A lot of people took this and ran with it that the company should be not be allowed to have continued its work when they knew that this was happening.

    1. In announcing its investigation, the Coast Guard said it would be looking into possible "misconduct, incompetence, negligence, unskillfulness or willful violation of law."

Again, this is old news but gives the reader the ability to have some kind of resolution, that these people did not just die and that was the end of the story. This leaves it open for more stories to come.

    2. On June 18, the Titan sub, which was owned and operated by OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact with the Polar Prince, a Canadian research vessel, about one hour and 45 minutes into its voyage to the wreckage of the Titanic

They do a good job on giving background ot the oringial story even though they have linked it. However, i think that this story is not as full as it appears at first glance, and doesnt give that much new News rather one new piece of news with old news.

    3. U.S. Coast Guard recovers "presumed human remains" and debris from Titan sub implosion By Faris Tanyos October 10, 2023 / 7:15 PM EDT / CBS News Coast Guard investigating Titan sub implosion Coast Guard launches investigation into Titan sub implosion 02:05 The U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday it had recovered "additional presumed human remains" and what is believed to be the last of the debris from the Titan

I think that this is interesting that there are more remains that we havent heard about yet. They wait so long to announce that they had remains.

    4. which imploded in June

They do link other stories back, making it easier for the reader to follow the story, and alos building credibility for the article.

    5. The human remains, which were "carefully recovered from within the debris," have been "transported for analysis by U.S. medical professionals," the agency added.

I think it is interesting that we are just now hearing of this when they first recovered the remains of the ship in June.

    1. Consumer spending, the biggest engine of the US economy, powered US gross domestic product to grow at a stunning annualized rate of nearly 5% last quarter — more than double the quarter before that. That doesn’t mean all Americans are thriving, but it does suggest that the historically strong labor market — unemployment has been under 4% for nearly two years — is giving workers a sense of security about their future paychecks.

I think these polls are better because they seem to have more authority, likely from the goverment. However I think again we need more context to be able to make a fair assessment.

    2. A majority — 58% — told CNN in a poll released in September that Biden’s policies have made economic conditions worse.

Im not overly convinced that this is the majority of people. They have not said what their poll really was or how many people took it. If this is like the +-2 rule than they should not say majority.

    3. 72% of all Americans say things in the country are going badly, and 66% said the economy will be “extremely important” when deciding whom to vote for next year

Here they dont give any kind of background for where this stat came from. They dont say who they polled, they say all americans, but I was never asked about this. My friends and family were not given the opportunity to answer it.

    1. doughnut partnership

For some reason when I click on the article the point above goes away so this will have to do.

This article is news worth because people are willing to go out and buy these products. People are easily influenced, and it does not take a lot of work to put out these types of story. Its a fun easy story to report about that influences people to go and try a new thing on the menu.

    2. Krispy Kreme may sweeten McDonald's doughnut partnership

This looks like it would be a metaphor, however when you read the article it is not. They are actually going to be making the item sweeter by adding donuts to the menu. However, they are not actually adding sweetner to other items on the list so you could argue that this is a metaphor.

    1. Now, as Trump mounts his third presidential bid and as Florida Republicans have worked to turn the state solidly red, he is looking toward Hialeah to expand his support in Miami-Dade County, which he almost flipped three years ago.

This is news worthy because this is a large election that we will have to think about in the next year. Seeing that we have to figure out who will be the next president people will want to think about counties that may flip to change who the presidential candidate is.

    2. paints himself

He does not literally paint himself but he portrays himself in a better light. I would say that this metaphor is under the category of action. That he is not actually doing this.

    1. In a video posted to in 2020, Ruby said her daughter's teacher had texted her, telling her that the youngster didn't have anything to eat for lunch. She said all her kids are responsible for preparing their own lunches in the morning, so she would not be dropping off any food for her daughter to teach her a lesson. Franke said: 'My hope [is that] she will be hungry and come home and be like 'that was really painful being hungry all day I'll make sure to always have a lunch with me.'''The natural outcome is that she is just going to have to go hungry.'

Here the just continue to show all of the issues that have been made public. This helps the viewer come to the same conclusion that what she did was terrible.

    2. She also threatened to bin her children's items if they didn't pay her cash for them, claiming it was a lesson in understanding the value of their things. Both Franke and Hildebrant have been previously criticized for their teachings on parenting – collaborating on Hildebrandt's life counseling service ConneXions.Ruby first rose to fame for her strict parenting style which blew up online and made her 'millions' of dollars, she claimed.

Inlcuded this to show that Ruby truly is abusing her children and that their is proof of it.

    3. 2015.

Adding dates to the story helps the reader understand where this is coming from and how long this has been going on.

    4. He 'wanted to have his daughter charged with theft for taking some hard drives out of the house', with officers informing him that she 'wasn't aware' she couldn't have them.

I feel that they have added these details to show how strange this family truly is. This article is pointing to the daughter as the person that is being normal and caring to her siblings. Painting her as the real adult in the situation

    5. who is estranged from her parents and who's father Kevin has wanted her arrested for burglary

Here this piece of information that again is not necessary to add but adds to the drama of the story.

    6. open wounds and duct tape on his limbs.

they are purposefully highlighting the main ideas that brought this story to light. So in this instance, they are showing the part that is the most disturbing about this information. Or inforation that feeds the dislike towards these people.
