    1. Watching this timelapse of immigrantion is fascinating. For me, it is really cool to see the impacts of programs such as the "Bracero Program," which increased Mexican migration to the United States. Immigration to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay during the two world wars serve to explain why parts of those countries are so white. Although an estimated 60+% of Brazil's population has African heritage, it's main states, such as Rio, São Paulo, and Amazônas are predominantly white. If the two world wars did not happen, would the European populations of Brazil and Argentina be as large?

    1. While many see the guillotine as barbaric, it is actually a lot less gruesome than it looks considering that capital punishment was very common in pre-revolutionary France

Although the guillotine might have been less barbaric than other forms of capital punishment, the theatric aspect of execution by guillotine disgusts me. It truly brings out the worst in humanity. People were so bored with their lives that they thirsted to see the bloodshed of others. That is the real barbarity of the situation.

    1. The pornographic propaganda that was used against Marie Antoinette

It is interesting to see modern methods of "besmirchment" applied to a historical figure. During her time, an image of purity, religion, and G-dliness was of the upmost importance. It is interesting to see a modern method of "insult" applied to a historical figure who could never have dreamt of imagery as graphic as these.

    1. Probably copied in Egypt, this 10th-cent

The penmanship and artistry used to create all of these documents is incredible. It is beautiful to see the care that people put into documenting and preserving their creeds.

    1. I am constantly surprised by the craftsmanship and artistry capable of artisans from long ago. In my mind, I imagine metal workings and carvings as a modern art because it appears long an tedious; but, seeing all of the inventions from long ago reminds me how innovative our ancestors are.

    1. What I love about this timeline is that is shows you ALL of the major events that happened in one year. Personally, what confuses me the most about history is when we learn about events that happened concurrently, but we learn about them as if they are completely, separate, unrelated events. This timeline helps to lay out history in a way that makes it easy to piece history together.

    1. I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

I think the connection with nature is interesting. The Torah/Old Testament is often seen as straightforward; in other words, monotheistic. The language used in this passage personifies aspects of nature, which to me is unusual. That type of personification is almost more closely associated with "pagan" religions.

    1. Watching the 3D video helped to put the Atlantic Slave Trade voyages into perspective. History often focuses on slavery as it happened once established and integrated; seldom does it focus on the tools that institutions used to enable their actions. The video helped the viewer to visualize what "poor living conditions" truly means.

    1. Jamaica, port unspecified

Seeing the entirety of this data base makes one truly realize the extent of the Slave Trade in the Caribbean. In American elementary and middle schools, we learn about slavery in mainland North America, (the original 13 colonies and so on) despite the fact that the majority of African slaves were sent to the Caribbean. This makes one reconsider the lens that they see history from.
