Although these findings demonstrate the need to use caution when targeting CAFs, they also highlight the need to systematically determine the composition and function of the PDA stroma to improve the development of effective stroma-targeting drugs.
This highlights an important shift in thinking, where instead of broadly targeting CAFs, there is a need to better understand their different roles, since some subtypes may promote tumor growth while others could have protective functions.
