    1. education is a fearful enterprise.”2 Students, he explains, are “afraid of failing, of not understanding, of being drawn into issues they would rather avoid, of having their ignorance exposed or their prejudices challenged, of looking foolish in front of their peers.”

This learning principle very much resonates with me. I will most likely be afraid to fail for the rest of my life as it’s a normal human feeling. But, I want to get the most out of my education. Doing just the bare minimum in a class and passing is not going to help you grow your knowledge. I have to seek the classes that will challenge me and help me grow. Ethical issues go hand-in-hand with Furthering your education. You can’t learn by cheating, copying others, and doing the easiest classes. You have to put in the honest work yourself to learn.

    2. Ethics is a “branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions” (“Ethics,” n.d.).

One ethical issue that I anticipated when starting college was cheating. When I was in high school, I had a lot of difficulty in class and I was too scared to ask for help so on I cheated on assignments or had someone tell me the answers. It kept my grades up, but I felt incredibility guilty. As an adult, I am much better at asking for help and I have a support group that can help me study or help me with topics I find difficult.

    1. SMART goals

My SMART goal will be to work on my communication. I will work slowly through this class to be more clear and specific with my communication. I can work with my fiancé and other leaders at work to check in with my communication. By the end of this course, I want to be able to be specific with my communication and be able to have more difficult conversations.

    2. Communication skills

What could help with building leadership qualities are communication skills, peer leaders setting an example, and helping your community. My greatest barriers are communication and other peers. I need to be better at communication and actually learning from others.

    3. Leadership is people engaging with others to accomplish change.

I would say that my leadership qualities compare to my Mac character choice because he inspires change in Lighting McQueen. I am more focused on helping others get their goals than being selfish about mine.

    1. Unfortunately, most conversations about college and learning seem to revolve around acquiring job skills and focus on the idea of “doing.”

An invitation to a new kind of conversation. People often ask very loaded questions that make higher education seem unnecessary. It’s more important to focus on every lesson during college, whether they are for your specific degree so you can be more well rounded in life so you can be successful in the future. “What are you going to do with your major?” Your major is the first step in showing that you have the discipline to grow through college. It’s the first step towards getting your dream career. This class is going to help me build the qualities that I will use through my life and be a capable learner. This knowledge is used in the real world to be a more competent and aware person. Being a creative, critical thinker is how you will grow in your career and your personal life.

    2. If job skills are not the only or most important outcome of a college education, then what is the purpose of earning a degree?

When learning jobs skills are not enough: What is the purpose of getting a degree? What is the purpose of learning skills do a job if it’s not enough? You need a degree and job skills to show that you have those technical skills, but you need to prove that you are a learner and be well rounded.

    3. non-traditional students who make up the rest of the student population are dealing with the opposite concerns of trying to fit school into their already established life. No matter which category they fall into, UCCS is prepared to provide the tools needed to help them persist to graduation.

How is this program relevant to me? I am one of the students who already has an established life. This program is relevant to me because I need that help transitioning into school. I always struggled with the non traditional, online schooling but I don’t have the time to be on campus. I need those tools to navigate through school.

What is college like? To me, college is what is going to help me get my dreams. College is going to help me succeed and teach me the olive skills I will need in the future. Not just the specific skills I will need for my career, but build my communication, problem solving and critical thinking, professional ethics, and balancing my life.
