    1. k, too. They have no motivation for doing bor getting out of that situation" (quoted in Tumulty 1991). Libusually blame the victim less, but they, too, decry we

I think this is no longer true. The modern Democrats rely on the voting patterns that derive from what can be categorized as welfare dependency.

    1. what they’re actually incentivized to do

I think this is crucial to understand. Oftentimes, the methods to measure achievements do not align with actually measuring the quality or completeness of the intended objective.

    1. *  Grades tend to reduce the quality of students’ thinking.

I fully agree with this. Most of the grading schemes require formats and procedures that restrict the horizon of creativity.

    1. se. There is a certain inherent humiliation in getting repeatedly confused with someone else, confirming, as it does, one’s own interchangeability and/or forgettability—not to mention the traits that you and your doppelganger dohave in common

This is interesting because I only found people confusing my name to be merely (and mildly) annoying but nothing else. Maybe because I often confuse people's name too lol.

    1. when AIDS-focused BBSes were launched. In the early 1990s, as grassroots organization ACT UP was organizing kiss-ins and other protests to draw attention to government inaction on HIV/AIDS,

I think this is not only crucial to the aspects of history but also public health and how much influence 'digitalization' had throughout the country.

    1. What part of this methodology is unsettling to me? Am I using this digital tool appropriately? Why am I hesitant to ask this question?

I think this is a gateway to further historical and even anthropological inquiries that may stimulate high-quality findings and research.

    1. Digital media changes the way users as readers and viewers digest informa-tion.

I think this sentence captures the essence of this course, and the core principle we look to learn more about.

    1. thousands of libraries, archives, and museums continue to facilitate access to existing collections

It's amazing how much of these resources we're able to access. I came to appreciate this when I had to find sources for projects.

    1. feels like a moment where people are being compelled to understand the statein a different way

Seems like a good motivation for organizing a group that stands for something. I think it's necessary to review this every once in a while.

    1. "I would rather give the children to the grandfather," hesaid publicly at one point, "than have them be raised with a bunch ofqueers."

Another indication towards how "queers" are viewed, and that such traits become a factor to disqualify someone from a certain life.

    1. Fornearly ten years, Jose ́ lived without the sexual intimacy of a female and the domesticlabors usually assigned to a woman, in a region roughly 1,500 miles from home—Calvillo, Aguascalientes, then a small, insulated, largely agricultural pueblo.

That's one hell of a commitment. Kudos to Jose.

    1. Since the “deviant” is outside the law, and “abnormal,” the pressureon all women to assent to the “mothering” role is intense.

While I agree that there is a social sentiment that pressures towards it, I'm not sure if this is the statement I would use to define the phenomenon.

    1. Not to come byand see you as much anymore. I had to ask myself why I get so downwhen I'm with you, my mother, who has focused so much of her lifeon me, who has endured so much; one who I am proud of and respectso deeply for simply surviving.

It's interesting how it makes you wonder what went on but also tells you that the writer does have respect and acknowledgement towards what was given from a 'mother.'

    1. Humble as a woman anywhere    I remember finding you inside the laundromat    in Ruleville

I think this sets the background for sure where women's traditional role are standardized.

    1. Many feminists, like Seaman, were especially eager to preserve theirmemories and transmit lessons from their activism for younger generations.

I think decisions such as this are what enabled analyses of feminism and looking at its movement from historical perspectives.

    1. at, because they donot perform or feel invested in conventional femininity, they can no longerbe women

This is a new perspective for me, not something I would've ever thought of on my own.

    1. Yakama scholar Michelle Jacob explores the revi-talization of traditions in her own community, which she conceptualizes asunderstanding Indigenous bodies as “sites of critical pedagogy,” centeringsocial justice “to build a moral community,” and utilizing grassroots Indige-nous resistance “as a mechanism to dismantle colonial logics.”

An interesting approach. Would like to know more about how certain examples portray the concepts that are being described.

    1. daughter; mixed up the signs; got welded; whined;wiped back to front; packed at midnight the nightbefore; bored self to death; pictured it allwrong; fixated;inverted the colors;

Can really feel the intensity from the wordings.

    1. no opportunities for colored girls besides thebroomand the mop,or spread-eaglein really hard times.

Speaks to the notion of inequality which has existed long before our time.

    1. The correction wasto establish marriage as a permanent, monogamous, exclusive relationshipwith husbands assuming power and authority for the care of their wives andchildren. L

I think this is an interesting development as on the other side of the world (Japan), the word for husband in literal translation means master.

    1. Today the question is no longer wheth· • II II d "b " er women(or non-whites)are mte ectu_ay an y nature equippedforhi hertion but whether this male-created,male-domin~ d t g ed_uca-, I f • h h . ale s ructureis re-allycapabfl o servmgt e umamsm and freedo •t ,m I pro1ess

I think this issue has to be approached with caution as it can get to a slippery slope of crumbling down everything of what the male-created, male-dominated structure has built.

    1. If it isn’t, then our obligation is to work for its elimination and, in the meantime, do what we can to minimize its impact.

I think a large portion of the improvements can come from professors as they allocate portions of the overall grades more efficiently and be more precise on what gets graded and how.
