    1. teacher resistance to change, especially ;top-down changethe costs associated with purchasing and maintaining the necessary media hardware; thepoor instructional quality of media software; and failure to provide teachers with adequateguidance as to how to integrate the new media into their instructional practices.

I don't find many teachers that are anti-technology completely in their classroom. I think at the very least, we all use visual aids to assist in instruction. However, this bit about "failure to provide teachers with adequate quidance" sticks out to me because I often hear teachers talking about how they don't understand how the new programs work. Although the district does offer trainings, many staff have noted that the trainings are ineffective and they leave feeling just as confused.

    2. upporting learners’ ability tofind useful resources

I believe this is a big part of the connection between instructional design and educational technology. Without instruction, educational tech is not as effective. Educators need to teach the skills required to understand internet safety, information reliability, useful tools, etc. These skills are not only important for curriculum purposes but are essential in a world ruled by technology. How many jobs can you think of that don't require at least minimal tech skills?

    3. Scriven coined this tryout and revision process and contrasted it with whatformative evaluationhe labeled , the testing of instructional materials after they are in their finalsummative evaluationform.

This explantion of formative and summative assessments gave me a slightly new perspective. Thinking of formative assessments like homework and quiz assignments and students learning not being in the final form yet stood out to me. By the time the summative evaluation or unit test is given, students should feel like they experience enough "draft" exercises and feel prepared to demonstrate a deep understanding of the topic without the need for revisions.

    4. educators’Chapter 33ability to find and evaluate resources, share knowledge and ski

Just this week I used 2 activities with my classes from social media. I recall finding one from tik tok and one in a teacher Facebook group where people often share their best strategies or ask for instructional advice. I found both activities to be highly engaging and they will definitely be a new staple in my classroom.

    5. ChatGPT, Grade-scope, and Fetchy are being used for such tasks as creating interesting lessons, assessing student work, providing feedback to students, and individualizing instruction. Game-based learning ( ) also is being frequently used to support learning, not just throughChapter 36having students games but also by having students their own games.

I have personally used both chatgpt and game based learning in my classroom. I don't use chatgpt to provide feedback or assess. I do believe that those aspects are primarily the educators responsibility. However, I have used chatgpt to create collaborative groups, design seating charts, create short stories using specific information and more! I have found It to be quite useful when feeling overwhelmed with the amount of tasks we face daily. As for game based learning, my students love playing blooket and gimkit. I use this as an opportunity to connect vocabulary to images for better memory and to do drill practice with topics like verb conjugations. This past school year, I had students create a trivia game by creating questions about the country of their year long portfolio.

    6. Papertpredicted that the computer was going to be “a catalyst of very deep and radical change in theeducational system” (p. 422) and that by 1990 one computer per child would be a very commonstate of affairs in schools in the United States.

It's very interesting to see how these predictions were being made in the early 80's and while many schools do have 1:1 devices, there are several that do not. It's rare to see a school without student laptops these days, I remember having to go to the computer lab, then it changed to the computer cart and finally, a device for each student. What will come next?

    7. Most training directors reported that the films reduced training time without having anegative impact on training effectiveness and that the films were more interesting and resulted inless absenteeism than traditional training programs ( )

This is something educators are very familiar with today. We attend several mandatory trainings a year that are completed online using a training video to instruct us on topics such as hazardous materials, sexual harassment, etc.

    8. Cuban (1986)reception of radio signals, scheduling problems, and teacher resistance to change were among themany factors that resulted in this lack of impact

I think in today's society, the radio acts as a tool for gathering information which can then be applied to other situations. I was shocked to hear about how bad the traffic at my school was yesterday morning on the radio while I was actively sitting in it! We continue to collect information from radio broadcasts, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.

    9. Thomas Edison proclaimed: “Books will soon be obsolete in theschools. ... It is possible to teach every branch of human knowledge with the motion picture. Ourschool system will be completely changed in the next ten years” (cited in , p. 98).

While we are much less dependent on written content in books in 2025, Edison's belief was incorrect. We still watch films in school but they we also reread books and hope that between the written format, discussions and visual.audio media, students can engage in meaningful learning.

    10. istribution of portable museumexhibits, stereographs [three-dimensional photographs], slides, films, study prints, charts, andother instructional materials” (p. 89). The first school museum was opened in St. Louis in 1905,and shortly thereafter school museums were opened in Reading, Pennsylvania, and Cleveland,Ohio. Although few such museums have been established since the early 1900s, the district-widemedia center may be considered a modern-day equivalent.

I find this connection between the process of bringing in actual items in the 1900's to now having a digital media center. In my opinion, the writer mentions the district wide media center to imply that learners now have even more extensive access to the outside world/history than they did when a few schools had a school museum.

    1. instructional design and technology

I think this definition implies a separation between instructional design and technology/media. Contrary to earlier definitions, this title acknowledges the inclusion of systemic processes used to design meaningful curriculum while also including the availability to include different modes of technology to follow these instructional procedures.

    2. The new definition also indicates that one of the goals of professionals in the field is to improve. The authors indicate that this term emphasizes that it is not sufficient to simply helpperformancelearners acquire inert knowledge. Instead, the goal should be to help learners the new skillsapplyand knowledge they have acquired

"Improve performance...apply skills...acquire knowledge" I interpret this as providing learners with tools that assist them in best demonstrating their understanding. Often times, this includes technological devices/platforms. For example, some learners excel on computer based assignments versus written assignments.

    3. ors. First,it does not separate teachers from media, incorporating both into the phrase “resources forlearning”

The 1994 definition proves that you need both parts of the equation for a successful instructional setting. For example, media is a great resource for gathering or organizing information but a teacher not only instructs new users how to operate these devices/platforms but also assists in problem solving, implementing new ideas and encouraging collaboration.

    4. collaborative learning gained in popul

Using technology like google docs/slides or other platforms allowing multiple people access at once, have definitely improved collaboration among students both in and out of school. I love that my students can work together on a common slideshow both in class, in study hall and at home.

    5. Educational technology is a complex, integrated process involving people, procedures, ideas, devices, and organization, for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating, and managing solutions to those problems, involved in allaspects of human learning

This definition combines the processes/procedures associated with the earlier instructional technology definition and the perceived definition of supplemental educational technology/mediums such as devices/presentation.

    6. t educationalLumsdaine (1964)technology could be thought of as the application of science to instructional pra

This made it pretty clear that educational technology and instructional technology go hand in hand. In this context, it implies that educational technology is supplemental to other forms of instructional practices. For example, adding a slide set with images and audio to a story written on paper would allow students to connect with the material through various methods.

    7. as “the enrichment of education through the ‘seeingexperience’ [involving] the use of all types of visual aids such as the excursion, flat pictures, models, exhibits, charts, maps, graphs, stereographs, stereopticon slides, and motion pictures” (, p. 6)

When I think of this degree program, this is what I picture. Creating appealing and easy to understand slides, images, videos, etc that help students form the connections between content and imagery.

    8. ield focus their attention on different aspec

As previously stated, the field is so broad and includes many different topics. I think people find their "niche" and work to perfect that. I know that I am personally most interested in using visual aids to enhance learning.
