      DEVOUR LITERATURE. very unique and visually outstanding phrase. expressing to the reader how seriously and obsessively interested in reading he was.

    2.      In my slow, painstaking, ragged handwriting, I copied into my tablet everything printed on that first page, down to the punctuation marks.

      this sentence has powerful visuals, i enjoy the uniqueness of his adjectives. "slow, painstaking, ragged" gives you, the reader, the impression that that his handwriting was awful.

    3. But every book I picked up had few sentences which didn’t contain anywhere from one to nearly all of the words that might as well have been in Chinese.

      I found this to be more-so humorous than anything. His comparison to learning to write and read in english to a foreign and difficult language, puts a frustrating visual into the readers head. reminds me of when i was a child and would pretend to read chapter books, when the words on the pages looked like alien hieroglyphics.
