    1. Winthrop gave speeches and published lectures on established Puritan doctrine in an effort to counter the influence of Antinomian supporters in the colony and justify the trial and eventual exile of the woman seen as the leader of these dissenters, Anne Hutchinson.

They seem very wary of any outsiders including Native Americans because it almost feels as if they are threatened by their actual presence. Any outside interaction is almost a viable threat to their society and views.

I feel this idea comes with Tyranny a lot as well, just the idea that these ideas are superior, you must follow them and that no other outside knowledge will be allowed.. kind of like North Korea. Puritans had it set up this way due to their strict social hierarchy.

    2. Secondly that He might have the more occasion to manifest the work of his Spirit: first upon the wicked in moderating and restraining them: so that the rich and mighty should not eat up the poor nor the poor and despised rise up against and shake off their yoke. Secondly, in the regenerate, in exercising His graces in them, as in the grate ones, their love, mercy, gentleness, temperance, etc., in the poor and inferior sort, their faith, patience, obedience &c.

From the beginning of time there has been this idea that we could all live equally, in one form or another this idea we have been fighting for not only decades but centuries. This idea if executed thoroughly would help an incredible amount of people in our world today. In this present tense, it would also allow for seclusion of the community. This way outside sources would not be able to come in and infiltrate their teachings and ways of living.

It would also allow for that community to grow and prosper without needing to trade or barter with outside sources.

    3. First of all, true Christians are of one body in Christ, 1 Cor. 12.12: Ye are the body of Christ and members of their part. All the parts of this body being thus united are made so contiguous in a special relation as they must needs partake of each other’s strength and infirmity; joy and sorrow, wale and woe. 1 Cor. 12. 27: If one member suffers, all suffer with it, if one be in honor, all rejoice with it. Secondly, the ligaments of this body which knit together are love. Thirdly, nobody can be perfect which wants its proper ligament.

Here he is referring to the colony as the body of Christ, they are all one being living unified in one community. Not only was this a metaphor but this specific passage really stood out to me because of the way it is compared with the colonies strength and infirmity.

There is this huge idea that they are all one body. No man is higher than another, if your brother suffers you are suffering as well. Which is such an interesting thing to think about when you compare it to the way we live in our society now. Pretty much everyone is out for themselves these days, heck I mean even my ex boyfriend had the mentality that you don't talk to your neighbors. You don't ask them for a cup of sugar or even acknowledge them, that is how antisocial and closed off a lot of our community is. Thirty years ago neighbors were close knit communities and if we go even further back to Puritan times, they solely relied on each other to further growth.

The Puritan idea sort of reminds me a bit of communism, just in the way that no one makes more than someone else and they are very self-sustaining.
