    1. "We are appalled at what took place and in no way condone this type of activity in our schools," Hempfield School District said in a statement. "Neither the dress of the invited guests nor the performance was appropriate in our school setting."

I read the lancaster article, in which they explain that the students were indeed wearing inappropriate clothing, showing skin in places that people in high school shouldn't show.

Though this article focuses on the drag and LGBT part, implying that the school is appalled by the drag show as a whole, and the LBGT students as a whole.

    2. demonstrated erotic dance routines in drag outfits,

Were the dance routines actually erotic, or did they just seem to be because the students we're dressed in drag?

    3. Pennsylvania school district 'appalled' at drag show during after-school LGBT club

This story this title is trying to convey, is that drag shows are bad, and inappropriate for schools.

Using the word "club" in the titles, even if it means an after-school club, reminds the readers of a nightclub. At least that's what I first thought when seeing the words "drag show" and "club" together.

    1. Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News poll with Democrat Chris Anderso

Okay so the people who are conducting this poll, one of them is republican Daron Shaw, and the other one is Democrat Chris Anderson.

    1. Putting aside the serious job-killing effects of such large minimum wage increases for a minute

Lets not, what ARE the serious job-killing effects of such a large minimum wage increase? They would have a much better argument if they included these reasons.

    1. Context with how many school shootings there has been the last few years is relevant. It definitely changes how someone perceives this article. I mean some people could read it and think, "there goes another one, it just happens sometimes." while others think that the fact that it "just happens sometimes" is the main issue.

It seems to be pretty case closed for all the people who made comments about this, just saying that they have their prayers and crap.

    2. The first half of the article focuses on describing the event, what happened, and what the effects were. The second half mostly just focuses on what other people are saying about the situation. The people talking are the Mayor, Tennessee lawmakers, and some state senators. They all basically said the same thing, "We're heartbroken, you have our prayers, and thanks to the officers."

    3. On Monday, the FBI released data on active shootings for 2021. The agency said there were 61 such incidents that year with all but one committed by a male. The number of shootings was a 50% increase from 2020, the FBI said.

This is the last thing in the article. Maybe they didn't want people to really think about the gun part of this shooting?

    4. A rifle allegedly used by Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale. (Nashville Police Department )

Three different pictures of the guns (allegedly) used. They said allegedly a lot. (BUT not when referring to Hale as transgender) Most of the have stickers, and the photos are very blurry.

Actually these are really bad photos, and they're the last pictures in this. AND there's 3 different photos, they could have put this in the place of the other ones that just repeated, but they didn't. Maybe they don't want people to think about how guns caused this.

They focused on Hale's car and the entrance of the building more then the actual weapons that caused this tragedy.

    5. Police cordoned off the entrance to Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday following a mass shooting. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital)

Bro seriously this is the 3rd picture of the tapes off entrance. We get it move on.

    6. Hale entered the school after shooting out the glass doors, police said.  (Nashville Police Department)

Shot out glass doors, supposably at the entrance of the school. Door matches with the doors of the building in the background in the first picture.

We see broken glass, the door open, and crime scene little thingies on the floor.

Probably put it to emphasize how violent the shooter was, breaking glass and shooting in doors. Crime of passion.

    7. Police cordon off an area after reports of a shooting at The Covenant School, Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, March 27, 2023. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital )

Same thing as other picture, just different angle. Honestly I think that they we're just running out of pictures. I mean I guess its just to really get the point across that this is serious.

    8. Police cordon off an area after reports of a shooting at The Covenant School, Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, March 27, 2023. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital)

Interesting how its vertical but was taken by the same fox news person as many of the other ones.

Probably taken from inside the car, shows the traffic after the incident. Probably all the parents of the kids coming to pick them up.

Add to the emotional factor, scared parents and kids trying to leave, they just want to go home and be safe, but here they are stuck in traffic.

    9. The entrance to Covenant Presbyterian Church, which hosts the Covenant School, where police responded to a mass shooting. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital)

"The entrance"? Did they like run out of pictures or something? Why is there a guy in this picture. They could have waited until no one was in the shot.

Dude in red shirt walking away from the school. Who is he? Idk, who knows, hes just some guy.

    10. Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Assistant Chief Dwayne Greene speaks to the media regarding a shooting at The Covenant School, Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, March 27, 2023. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital)

Lots of people care about this, and care about what he's going to say. Obviously he's respected.

Takes place in a parking lot, probably the one for the school. But we don't actually know where this is taking place.

    11. A Honda Fit driven by Audrey Hale to the Covenant School has "additional material," police said.  (Nashville Police Department)

We can see that Hale had stickers on their car, which provides a more human side to them. They were a person who put stickers on their car because that's what they enjoyed, it made them happy.

But it could also be trying to tell that people with these types of stickers are bad.

    12. An image of a windshield that was shot at by Audrey Hale as police officers arrived to the school campus, police said.  (Nashville Police Department)

Picture was taken after it was tampered with, as we see police thingy measuring the hole. Probably trying to figure out if the gun that made the hole was the same one Hale had.

    13. Police cordon off an area after reports of a shooting at The Covenant School, Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, March 27, 2023. (Emily Zanotti/Fox News Digital)

You can see yellow police tape, a sign seems to be for a summer camp,(added to the emotional reaction that this happened at a school with children), caption says that they are taping off the area.

They put this one in to show that there are things inside that they don't want the public to see, like little sad children bodies.

    14. Law enforcement officers lead children away from the scene of a shooting at The Covenant School, a private Christian school in Nashville, Tenn., on Monday March 27, 2023. (Jozen Reodica via AP)

Jozen Reodica via AP (associated press). Picture from the press. They put this picture in because it evokes emotion. See the children and all the police cars, even if its far away, it makes the audience sad to see.

    15. Nashville police respond to a shooting at Covenant School in Tennessee. (Metro Nashville Police Department)

Picture from covenant school in Tennessee. (Same places shows up when googling.)

Picture shows school with a bunch of police standing around. Day is nice, nothing graphic, actually the picture is tilted up as if framing the tree instead of the officers.

    16. transgender woman.

not true? The suspect identified as a transgender man, not woman. You can't be born female, and identify as that sex, and call yourself transgender.

Implies either that they have no idea what they're talking about, or they called Hale a "transgender woman" to dismiss that they we're actually (allegedly) a trans man. (A trans man is a female who identifies as a man, and a Trans woman is a male who identifies as a woman.)

    17. Nashville police Chief John Drake said Hale possibly prepared for the shooting, including having written a manifesto.

Many of the quotes are from the Nashville police Chief, John Drake.

Investigated the scene, Hale's car, and their home. Knows more about the situation then the officers/authorities.

Get to speak because he is the police chief, and investigated the event.

    18. News Values:

Proximity (to me, I live in Nashville and my siblings are staying here in the summer, I want to be informed.)

Timeliness - It happened last month.

Conflict - It started a debate with trans people and shootings.

Human Interest - People died from another school schooling, those have been happening a lot. Some people care

    19. This is a News media product, it doesn't present opinion, it focuses on the facts and telling what happened. This was published the day of the shooting, so not much was known about the situation.

    20. identified as a 28-year-old female

Fox News is known for being biased against any LGBTQ+ subjects. Limited knowledge of them, makes a mistake calling the shooter a transgender woman, when it would actually be a transgender man. Whether this was done on purpose or not is unknown.

    21. Nashville school shooting: 6 killed including 3 students, shooter dead

Mentions where, proximity. Says what the result was, and then says what happened. Specified that 3 of the people killed were students.

    1. "The shooter’s gender identity has not been confirmed by CBS News. As such, we should avoid any mention of it as it has no known relevance to the crime. Should that change, we can and will revisit,

Seems a lot more chill, definitely not "barring" or "ordering staff" to do what they say.

    2. Police identified the shooter as a 28-year-old transgender

The lack of human identifying language, doesn't call them a trans person, or man, or woman, just " a transgender", like how you'd say "A dog" or "A gay". Bad, we don't talk like that, its rude.

    3. CBS News reportedly barring staff from using term 'transgender' to reference Nashville shooter

      Makes CBS look bad.

But in reality, they are the ones who are false.

Plus "barring" is a very aggressive word, makes CBS seems like a bad workplace.

    1. "It's all just disgusting and heartbreaking," she said. "We've had another school shooting but, because this shooter was trans, that's taken a back seat so politicians can demonize trans people. Now we're even more of a target than ever before."

Narrative: Because the Nashville school shooter was thought to be trans, trans people are now under attack and stereotyped as dangerous and bad people.

    2. After the service, Bennett, who has a trans son, said one of her congregants had been confronted and "told they were the cause, that this was God's repudiation of gay people, and that 'you and your people are going to hell for eternity,'" she said. "The trans community is going to pay dearly for this."

The effect this stereotype is having on real people.

    3. Grayson Collins, a trans man raising a 3-year-old daughter with his wife in a Nashville suburb, said the gender identity of a mass shooter was irrelevant.

      Trans-man affected - relevant

    4. The vast majority of mass shootings in the U.S. are committed by non-trans men,

Trying to hint that hey, maybe it isn't trans people's fault, and we should pay for attention to cis men shooting up schools.

    5. "We do not know the shooter's personal gender identity," Kristin Mumford, a police spokesperson, wrote in an email. "We are aware that she used male pronouns in a social media profile."

Again with "a social media profile", same line was used in many other articles. Though this one is from Kristin Mumford, and not the police Chief.

    6. Coscia has a 7-year-old daughter going to a Nashville-area school, and said he was never worried about doctors or drag queens harming children. But he does live in fear of school shootings, which have become commonplace in the U.S., where guns are easily obtained.

Very guilt trippy, but also true.

    7. T

This whole section is informing the audience of all the anti-trans things that have been going on.

It could be eluding that this is the motive behind the shooting, but probably not.

Its to inform people of what's happening, and how its going to get worse. They need to get the word out and stop this from happening, and this is one way to do that.

    8. "This isn't a trans issue, this is a gun issue," said Mykul Coscia, a drag king at Nashville's Play Dance Bar, an LGTBQ nightclub. "But they're gonna make it a trans issue."

Mykul Coscia - Drag King from Nashville Tennessee (relevant)

Perspective of trans and LGBT people after this incident. Many people in the community feel this way, including myself. Does that make me biased?

    9. Soon enough, some prominent Republicans, including J.D. Vance, a U.S. senator from Ohio, and U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, suggested in social media posts that the shooter's gender identity may have been a factor in the murders.

It has been proven over and over again that it isn't even proven that the shooter was transgender, we don't know their gender.

Republicans trying to blame the motive behind the shootings on gender identity.

    10. Mykul Coscia, who performs drag as Eazy Love at Play, a night club, poses for a portrait after a deadly shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S. March 29, 2023. REUTERS/Cheney Orr

First image shows a man sitting at a bar, looking distressed. Shown to show the impact this shooting has had on trans people in Tennessee.

Second Image of a drag performer getting money, I suppose to show who they interviewed for this article.

    11. Trans Tennesseans face backlash after school shooting

Doesn't mention why, or what specific school shootings.

      Backlash - bad publicity

trans people in tennessee are dealing with the reaction to a supposed trans shooter.

    1. Tennessee GOP Rep. Tim Burchett told reporters that “laws don’t work” to curb gun violence.

No evidence to prove what he says.

There is actually evidence of gun laws working in other countries, so.

    2. “Why not talk about the real issue facing the country – and that’s mental health.” And Sen. Bill Hagerty, the Tennessee Republican, refused to discuss calls to ban AR-15s after the Nashville shooting.

      Deny Deny Deny

The article talks a lot about how these people stayed silent for many of the heavy questions, or they just changed the subject to something else. CNN is showing that these people are avoiding these topics, and lets the audience think about why, and question these people's real intentions.

    3. Graham said he is opposed to a ban on AR-15s – which was one of the weapons the Nashville suspect used during Monday’s shooting – noting that he owns one himself and arguing that it would “be hard to implement a national red flag law.”

Associated Graham with the shooter, as they both has the same gun. Definitely makes him look bad.

    4. “The Second Amendment is the Second Amendment,” he continued. “I believe in the Second Amendment and we shouldn’t penalize law-abiding American citizens.”

Not a real reason, parallel to saying "because I said so", or "Because those are the rules, and rules are rules."

    5. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican whose committee has jurisdiction over gun policy, said Tuesday that he doesn’t think Congress should take action to limit assault weapons, though he declined to say why it’s okay to ban fully automatic rifles but not semi-automatic weapons.

Lack of information, the less I say the less of a chance they'll call my bluff.

    6. Sen. Thom Tillis, a key GOP negotiator in last year’s bipartisan gun legislation, said on Tuesday that he doesn’t see a path forward on new gun legislation. Instead, he believes that lawmakers need to focus on implementing what has already been signed into law.

Mention to earlier, with Biden's gun laws he passed, but not really working.

    7. all they want to do is take guns away from law abiding citizens. … And that’s not the answer, by the way.”

Doesn't explain why that is not the answer. I think everyone else would agree that the correct thing to do, is to take away the guns.

Maybe use the funds that go towards securing schools, and use it to enact better gun laws.

    8. On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy would not answer questions on whether any congressional action should be taken on guns after the shooting in Nashville. And House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana who survived being shot in 2017, demurred when asked if the most recent school shooting in Nashville would move Congress to address any sort of reforms. Many of the republicans are refusing to elaborate on the position of gun laws after the Nashville shooting.

Pleading the 5th, maybe if I just don't say anything, they'll leave me alone.

Use of the word "lawmakers" instead of republicans, even if in the other article, it says specifically republican lawmakers.

    1. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children

While other article only have a paragraph and briefly mention gun violence and school shootings in the past, this article provides an entire section to inform the audience on gun violence.

    2. Patton, meanwhile, had “called Nashville’s non-emergency line at 10:14 a.m. and was on hold for nearly seven minutes before speaking with someone who said that they would send an officer to my home,” she told CNN affiliate WTVF. An officer did not come to her home until about 3:30 p.m., she said.

Not included in any other article.

While many of the article are praising first responders for taking only 14 minutes to neutralize the situation, this article mentions that it took several hours for a mental health call to be acted upon.

Could be an insinuation that the police and community isn't taking mental health seriously, - and could be the cause for the shooting in the first place.

    3. the shooter

Narrative switch, referring to Hale as "the shooter" rather then their name.

Causes a switch in the audience, makes them think about what happened and what Hale did.

They refer to Hale as "the shooter" for the entire section where Hale was attacking. This is to disassociate Hale's name with the action, it takes the emotion out of it. You get a different feeling when "the shooter was killed" compared to "Audrey Hale was killed", a person. Using their name changes the narrative to be more complicated, we're no longer just thinking of a shooter, were thinking of Audrey Hale, a person who lived a life, had friends, hobbies, liked putting stickers on their car. A person.

But they don't want us to think of Hale as a person for this section, they want us to think of them as "the shooter". The villain, and nothing more.

    4. but hadn’t spoken in years and is unsure why she received the message.

Can you even call them friends if they hadn't spoken in years and only knew each other as children?

    5. friend

All the other articles don't use to word "friend" when referring to Hale and Patton's relationship. Friend is more casual, and implies that they know each other well.

It also makes the audience think of Hale's past and their life, humanizing them.

    6. “One day this will make more sense,” Hale wrote. “I’ve left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen.”

Every article gives a little more information on what Hale sent Patton that day. First one with this quote, "One day this will make more sense".

Adds a sense of mystery, gives a reason for what happened.

It makes sense that this was left out, as it implies that there was a reason for doing this, when most of the time people just want to think about the shooter as the villian, that they killed those people because they were crazy, that it wasn't the school fault.

This quote makes the audience think of the motive that Hale had, the knowledge that there was a reason that could, or maybe couldn't, have been avoided.

Basically it makes the audience see Hale as a human being with emotions and a past and a life, rather then just, "The shooter".

    7. Hale used male pronouns on a social media profile

"A (as in one) social media profile", Hale's parents, teammate, and former headmaster all refereed to Hale was she/her.

Honestly theres so much drama about how this shooter was trans, when it isn't even super clear that they were.

Hale themselves never said anything to anyone about be transgender. The only evidence provided is that Hale used he/him pronouns on a single social media profile.

    8. “someone that had multiple rounds of ammunition, prepared for confrontation with law enforcement, prepared to do more harm than was actually done,”

Again low key sucking up to themselves. Hale was killed before they could do more damage, and according to the stuff the police found, they could have done a lot more damage.

Kinda like a, you should be proud that we killed this person so fast, because they would have done much worse if we didn't save the day.

      Very hero-esk.

    9. Hale left writings pertaining to the shooting and had scouted a second possible attack location in Nashville, “but because of a threat assessment by the suspect – there’s too much security – decided not to,” Drake said on Monday.

      First time hearing this.

Other articles mention that Hale was planning on hitting a second location, but never mention that they decided not to.

That changes things, because it would make sense with how recklessly Hale was acting. You'd think that if you have the goal to attack two locations, you'll put in the effort to survive the first location.

    10. Nashville Mayor John Cooper told CNN the swift police response prevented further disaster.

Many of the articles mention the Major thinking the first responders for being so quick, the NBC article says basically the same thing at the end of it.

There had been incidents of officers taking a while to stop shooters, and RUMORS of them being too scared to go in and save the children. So the emphases on the great work of the first responders is basically "hey look! we respond! We did it! Woo!"

    11. Hale’s childhood friend

"FRIEND" THEY SAID FRIEND. THEY USED THE WORD FRIEND.

Doesn't include the friend's name... assumed its Patton from other articles.

This COULD mean that they were friends, but It also could mean (and probably does) that CNN just chose to use the word friend to simplify the relationship.

Even though Patton(the friend) never says she was friends with Hale. They were just teammates.

    12. We can all agree on one thing – that every human life has great value. We will act to prevent this from happening again. There is a clear desire in all of us, whether we agree on the action steps or not, that we must work to find ways to protect against evil,”

Surprisingly, no "thoughts and prayers" quote, but it's the same vibe.

    13. “All of Tennessee was hurt yesterday,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said in a video statement Tuesday. The governor said his wife Maria Lee was best friends with one of the victims, Peak, who was supposed to come over to the Lees’ home for dinner Monday evening.

tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, we care because he's the governor, and has authority over what happened in Tennessee.

"Victims" emotionally changed word, but not wrong

    14. The attack was the 19th shooting at an American school or university in 2023 in which at least one person was wounded, according to a CNN tally, and the deadliest since the May attack in Uvalde, Texas, left 21 dead. There have been 42 K-12 school shootings since Uvalde.

      CONTEXT

Explains the context of pervious shootings, and their effect on the communities. This was the 19th shooting this year 19 is a big number and it's only March(when this happened). Panic inducing tbh.

Fox news put this information at the bottom of their article, whole many other articles don't even include this statistics.

This paragraph is in the middle of the article, after explaining the situation, what happened and where.

    15. On Monday morning, Hale left home with a red bag, and the parents asked what was inside but were dismissed, Drake said.

Implies that Hale doesn't have the best relationship with their parents. Use of the word "dismissed", very neutral word, gives little emotional connotations. Did Hale completely ignore them? Did they say goodbye? Did they casually change the subject? It all matters, how Hale left their parents, what their last words to each other were, all could give hints as to the motive.

    16. emotional disorder

there are a lot of different emotional disorders. I mean, depression and anxiety are emotional disorders, and a lot of the population suffers from it. So it isn't really giving enough information.

    17. Students from the Covenant School hold hands Monday after getting off a bus to meet their parents at a reunification site after a mass shooting at the school in Nashville

Put in to get an emotional reaction from audience. So glad those people are okay, but 3 children died, and won't be meeting their family, makes the audience sad.

    18. The moment school shooter Audrey Hale arrived at the Covenant School was captured in 2 minutes of surveillance video released by Metro Nashville Police.

Screen cap of security footage, a chance for us to get a better look at Hale.

This is a way for the audience to compare the other photo of Hale with this one, show what changed. Could be an attempt to associate trans/masc presently people as dangerous and fem presenting people as docile. Idk maybe.

    19. Nashville police release security footage in school shooting

Video is a breakdown of what happened, and security footage.

We see a little more of Hale in that one hallway, opening the door and aggressively pointing the gun.

    20. This undated picture provided by the Metro Nashville Police Department shows Audrey Elizabeth Hale.

      oof. Wow.

I mean if this doesn't say "look at the emotionally stunted weirdo" idk what will. This picture is obviously form a long time ago, as Hale looks nothing like this in the videos. In the videos and footage provided of Hale, they are looking very masculine and aggressive, while this photo is anything but.

They picked this photo specify to make us think Hale was a crazy person, maybe. Idk its one possibility.

I mean, they look like an elementary school teacher.

    21. Nicole Hester/The Tennessean/USA Today Network

Nicole Hester - Photographer in Tennessee

The picture is obviously emotionally fueled. Look at this sad traumatized child, it's just the worst. The caption plays into it. They want us to feel bad.

    22. Video is from CNN, has a new anchor telling the general situation and what happened, then showed body cam footage.

The video only includes the officers running through the school, and stops before the shooter is killed.

    23. Its news dude

The medium is mostly text, but also a lot of photos and a video of the body cam footage.

Visual mediums often result in a more emotional response for the audience, especially was it's sensitive content.

    24. Covenant School shooter was under care for emotional disorder and hid guns at home, police say

"emotional disorder" very vague, there are a lot of different types of emotional disorders. Most of the population have emotional disorders, this doesn't really prove anything.

"hid guns", it is said that Hale's parent were unaware of them possessing guns, but I mean they bought them legally and they are a legal adult, I don't think "hid" is a very accurate word. Implies more malicious intent.

    1. The suspect, Ms Patton said , could be "standoffish" at times.

Implies that, though Patton was the one of the last people to talk to Hale, they weren't very close. I wonder why Hale messages them out of everyone?

Maybe Patton was the only friend Hale had, the messages are almost like Hale is asking to be stopped. Asking for attention? Sometimes that's all it comes down to, it honestly sounds like Hale was lonely, and didn't trust their parents. (In another article, it says that they just dismissed their parents and left, didn't even say goodbye. So Hale probably didn't have the best relationship. ALSO Hale was 28, and still lived with their parents, which could add to the resentment.

It could also be implied from the messages Hale sent, that they knew what they were doing was wrong. Hale kept using words like "tragic", and in the other article Hale says "something bad is about to happen". So obviously Hale knows what they're doing is wrong.

    2. Ms Patton, who is a local TV personality and influencer in Nashville, said she and the shooter were once teammates on the same middle school basketball team.

"teammates", not friends. Lack of the word friends in intentional.

    3. depressed and desperate

How do they know this from an instagram message? Maybe it was a voice message, but it would have mentioned that. I suppose it could be implied with the following events. But she could have been calm and collected. No one knows.

    4. Watch: Nashville shooter sent out alarming messages

Averianna Patton - Knew Nashville Shooter (NOT FRIEND, JUST KNEW)

9:57, about an hour before Hale is killed.

Patton used she/her pronouns for Hale. Though it never mentions they we're friends, so they might just not have been close enough for Patton to know their gender identity.

Lack of music adds to the severity of the situation.

Patton never refers to Hale as her friend, just that she got a text from them.

    5. Nashville shooter sent a former classmate messages moments before attack

This was mentioned in their previous article, a continuation. Doesn't include shooter's gender identity, uses the words "former classmate" and not friend. Also in the last one it said they played basketball in middle school together, not that they were classmates.

    1. Hale had reportedly messaged a former middle school basketball teammate 15 minutes before the attack, writing: "I've left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen."

"I've left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen.".

The ONLY mention of Hale's social life. "Former middle school basketball teammate", instead of the word "friend". Perhaps they didn't want to give negative association to the person and the shooter, it could be bad if someone is associated with a shooter.

      Anyways, the quote is interesting.

This section is the most information we get on Hale themselves, after this it's all just info about the people affected.

    2. Police spoke with the attacker's father during a search of a nearby home that was listed as the shooter's address.

First and only mention of Hale's father. They mention that he was spoken to, but not what he said. Probably to hide personal information.

    3. The context for the narrative:

It mentions that Hale had many guns at their house, that they had killed 6 people, including 3 children. And then goes on to tell the aftermath, people's reactions.

    4. The narrative for this article is to remind people how much of an effect school shootings have on families.

Surprisingly with the title, it actually focuses more on the people affected then the guns, even when "guns" is in the title. Emphases the effect of guns on families, implying that guns are bad, and should be banned. Though that's just one narrative.

    5. This article emphasises how this event affected other people. It mentioned many of the children who suffered and their statements, a pervious school shooting survivor and their perspective on the event. It focuses on guns, not esplishily saying that guns are bad and the cause of all this, but they sure are making us feel bad about it.

I mean, the last few quotes are just of children being scared and sad. "I don't want to be an only child", "son has been left traumatized" its true, yes, being in a school shooting is definitely traumatizing, especially if it affects you directly, but it's got a very guilt trippy vibe.

    6. Binary that this is terrible, that Hale was terrible, I mean just listen to the children they traumatized. Doesn't have any remorse for the shooter, follows the narrative that it was all the shooters fault and nothing else caused it.

    7. Survivor of Illinois shooting makes angry plea in Nashville

Survivor from a different shooting says some stuff. Important because she actually went through something like this, and has first hand experience on how it affected her and the people around her.

    8. Vigils took place at the Woodmont Christian Church

Random picture of people at a Church, supposedly Woodmont Christian Church, a church near the school.

I mean I could be vigils, but it could also just be a picture of people at church, we don't know.

I think its here to make us sad.

    9. F

(for image above) Picture of the window the Hale shot from. Thw window is broken, and there's literally a diagram that shows where that window was in order to shoot the car. So i think it's pretty safe to say that Hale shot the police car from that window.

If Hale was shooting at the police, maybe they didn't think they would be killed at this first location. They were trying to defend themselves, and we're killed by the police, not by suicide. What were they expecting to happen?

    10. Police released CCTV images showing the shooter gaining entry to the school

Footage of Hale is from the school's security cameras,

Video itself is done by BBC.

We get to see some of Hale's actions and mannerisms. We see them drive up to the school in a calm manner, not speeding or making a scene. Then inside, they shoot the doors, and kick the glass out of the way to get it. Again, not very aggressively, they kinds just moved it out of the way.

The other footage looks like Hale is looking for someone, just walking around with the guns pointed out.

Keep in mind that much of the footage wasn't shared.

    11. The medium is mostly text, but also has a video of the major talking about the event, footage of Hale driving into the school parking lot, the police chief talking about the event, footage of Hale shooting the doors open, and walking around the halls while heavily armed. The video also mentions that much of the footage was left out, assumed that it is of the assault itself. Which makes sense, they have no reason to release footage of children being shot and killed.

    12. Angélica Casas

Senior journalist, good reputation. From Nashville. Her being from Nashville is important, as she is close to the incident and can have a more accurate understanding of the situation.

    13. Nashville school shooting: Police seize guns at home of attacker

Word "guns" in title, different from many other articles. Puts emphasis on guns, makes people think about gun laws and stuff.

"Seize" instead of just saying found or using another word, more emotion in the word "seize", more clicks. Plus, it also stated that Hale had gotten the firearms legally, so seized is in interesting choice.

    14. officers said they believe "resentment" may have been a motive.

officers? Like the ones on the scene who know almost nothing about the situation or who that person is?

    15. is a biological woman who, on a social media profile, used male pronouns".

much less glitz and glam. Nothing is explicitly saying they were transgender, because honestly we don't know. If the only real evidence is that they used male pronouns on A (as in ONE) social media profile.

    1. News Narrative: The news narrative for this article is that Hale used to be a regular student, but something happened that must have triggered this kind of reaction.

    2. Context: The point is, "oh look at the cute little girl, isn't she so great, everyone loves her! She killed 6 people." Boom, that's horrible! It is actually horrible, but the article emphasizes the severity of the situation and gets you thinking about why by giving you context on the shooter. It doesn't actually answer any questions on why it happened.

    3. Hale came to the school on Monday with two AR-style weapons and a handgun, Drake said.

Big Big jump in descriptions? Idk emotions? It goes from light and floaty, "she was loved and appreciated", then snaps to "Hale came to school with two AR weapons", boom, big emotion, big contrast.

It's done on purpose, its an attention grabber, same as the hero turns out to be a villain. Obviously we already know what Hale did, but after six quotes(paragraphs) of Campbell describing Hale as a child and a student, someone who was loved, just a little girl, and that little girl brought 2 big guns to that school and murdered 6 people. It's like the climax of the story.

    4. “There’s some belief that there was some resentment for having to go to that school,” Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake told Lester Holt of NBC News.

Doesn't really explain what caused the resentment, just mentions that it may have been the motive.

    5. The writer of the story emphases how Hale was an actual person, a student who used to go to that school. Focuses on them, their past, and how people perceived them when attended the school.

    6. Former school headmaster Bill Campbell said that he remembered Hale as a third-grader in 2005 and fourth-grader in 2006, citing yearbooks he keeps.

This whole section is how former headmaster Bill Campbell remembered having Hale was a student. Unlike Fox, who talked very little about the shooter themselves, this article focuses on them and their motive.

This section mostly takes about how Hale was "just a regular girl", just like all the other students.

It also tells us when Hale was at the school, as Campbell remembers them as a 3rd grader, and transferred out in 4th grade. So whatever happened, if something happened, would have happened that year. (It doesn't state weather Hale attended the school for more than just 3rd grade.

    7. While the shooter might have targeted The Covenant School, Drake stopped short of saying Hale was going after any specific people. There were also indications that Hale had planned to target other locations, Drake told NBC News.

If Hale was planning on going to a different location, wouldn't they have had specific people in mind? They would have had to know that they would be killed when they walked into the school with a gun and started shooting people. Why would they make plans to visit another place after if they knew they would probably be killed at the first location? hmmm

It's not like they were subtle at all. They literally shot the door open.

    8. “She targeted random students in the school ... whoever she came in contact with, she fired rounds,” Drake said, referring to the shooter.

Important quote, they just shot anyone who came in contact with. Quote from Drake, the police chief, not a teacher. So he wasn't actually there. It can imply that the shooter didn't have a specific target, or it could be that those people we're just in their way, and had specific people in mind that they couldn't get to.

    9. It's very easy to think that the reason this shooting happened was because something happened in the elementary school while Hale was attending, that made them do this, and that the reason was because of them being trans. But that's not necessarily the case.

Something did probably happen to them, but they didn't target any certain person during the shooting, so it is probably directed at the place and not the people there. We see that Hale shot the door open, so obviously it's an emotionally fueled action. One of the quotes somewhere idk I don't remember, but one of the quotes from a teacher said that they just shot anyone in front of them, regardless of who they were, child or adult.

    10. Officials “feel that she identifies as trans, but we’re still in the initial investigation into all of that and if it actually played a role into this incident,” Drake said.

Uses she/her pronouns for the shooter.

    11. Most of the sources we're from Drake, the Nashville police chief, and Bill Campbell, former school headmaster(who was the headmaster while Hale went to the school). He had direct interaction with Hale when they attended the school, so they have useful information on why this may have happened.

There are also quotes from a neighbor of Hale, authorities, and Major John Cooper.

(All the Major says is to thank the first responders.

    12. This is news because it is relaying facts of evidence that we're gathered by the police chief. The speculation would be an opinion, but many of the statements are facts.

    13. By David K. Li, Erik Ortiz and Marlene Lenthang

Written by a senior NBC digital reporter. So this guy wasn't actually on the scene, he just got the information from other sources, and is writing an article about it with an argument that it was premeditated and fueled by respentment.

    14. Police chief tells NBC News a sense of ‘resentment’ may have fueled Nashville shooter’s attack at former school

Focuses on the shooter themselves. Doesn't include anything about the shooter's gender, just mentions "resentment".

Compelling title, published the day of the shooting. UPDATED the next day. So it probably just described what happened, and came back the next day to give more information.

Word Choice, "fueled resentment" is definitely attention grabbing words.

    15. He said Hale was transgender.

just mentions that they were trans, not that it had anything to do with the shootings. Also its in its own little paragraph, but that it? Thats a little weird.

    1. Young trans and nonbinary Black people also reported higher rates of victimization, with 77% having felt discriminated against because of their identity (compared to 56% of their Black lesbian, gay, bi and queer peers); being physically threatened or harmed because of their identity (40% to 22%); and experiencing homelessness or running away from home (34% to 24%).Meanwhile, Black transgender and nonbinary youths were far less likely (13%) than their Black lesbian, gay, bi and queer peers (72%) to receive strong social support from family members – a key factor in lowering the odds of suicide attempts.

The point is to be accepting regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

    2. The American Civil Liberties Union said 336 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in statehouses across the country in 2023, eclipsing the record 315 tallied by the Human Rights Campaign in 2022. Many bills target transgender youths, prohibiting gender-affirming care or participation in school sports teams aligned with their gender identity.

The anti-gay/trans bills being passed is one of the reasons Black trans/gay youth are more suicidal.

    3. Of 3,008 survey respondents who identified as Black, 25% of those also identifying as trans or nonbinary reported attempting suicide in the previous year, the report said, compared to 12% of their cisgender peers who identified as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. The figure was also higher than that of their white trans or nonbinary counterparts (16%).

Verified how many of the original 34,000 people, only about 3,000 of them were Black, and of that 25% of them had attempted suicide. They do not include the number, but the ultimate amount of Black LGBTQ youth who attempted suicide was 752.

It also included the percent compared to cis and gay, or trans or non binary. It doesn't state whether or not this statistic was only Black youths.

    4. The results were among key findings of the latest brief compiled by the Trevor Project as it combs through data collected from nearly 34,000 LGBTQ young people nationwide for its 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health.

Context and numbers given; 34,000 LGBTQ young people, but never mention that it only includes Black LGBTQ youth.

    1. But, within weeks, he began questioning the deal. Mr. Musk lashed out at the Twitter executives responsible for content decisions and accused the company of failing to accurately count the spam accounts on its platform. When Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief executive, tried debunking Mr. Musk’s claims, Mr. Musk responded by tweeting a poop emoji.

This whole paragraph makes Mr.Musk out to look like a child. I mean what can you expect when replying with a poop emoji.

    2. By taking the company private, he does not need to regularly answer to shareholders and can make changes to the service away from the public’s prying eyes.

Words is very defensive, portraying Elon Musk as the "bad guy". He very much might be, but the conitatitions don't help his case.

    3. Some advertisers have worried about allowing their brands to appear alongside controversial tweets.

I mean, can it get anymore obvious that this is a bad thing?

    4. The acquisition has been celebrated by some Republicans, who have argued that Twitter censored conservative viewpoints.

Definitely seems to siding with a specific group.

    5. Twitter said it would prohibit misleading claims about voting and the outcome of elections, but that was before Mr. Musk owned it.

This sentence implies that Must is going back on twitter's word, and may allow misleading claims about voting on the platform, spreading misinformation.

    6. he would “reverse the permanent ban” of former President Donald J. Trump from the service.

This could be the underlying reason for why must bought twitter in the first place. It makes sense, with the ability to now buy twitter verification, that Trump, one of the richest men in the world would be happy with this.

  3. Mar 2023
    1. As he came around the corner of an ice cap on Nordaustlandet island, he saw more than a dozen waterfalls pouring off its face.

The ice cap was melting, creating a beautiful waterfall. But, it's also sad because it means the world is getting warmer, and climate change is taking a toll on the earth.

    2. Ten photographs that made the world wake up to climate change

This title is a metaphor, "the world wake up". It isn't literal, the world doesn't sleep or wake up, in this they are talking about people around the world. Making the world wake up implies they were once asleep, which means unaware, concluding that this article will show the truth, informing people about climate change.

    1. somehow, that taking swipes at China is a suitable alternative.

This is an example of a metaphor, congress isn't actually "taking swipes" at china, it is meant to exaggerate congress's attempt to make china as a whole look bad, by interrupting, talking over, and accusing the tiktok ceo with uninformed accusations.

    1. When asked about how to protect children, like his own daughter, while in school, Burchett said he has opted to homeschool his daughter.

Continuing on the notion that they are only for themselves, assuming that everyone has the opportunity and funds to home school their children. For some people, sending their children to school is the only choice.

    2. Tennessee Republican responds to school shooting: ‘We’re not gonna fix it’

There's opinion in the title itself, as it gives a bad impression for Republicans that one of them believe that best thing to do is nothing, letting children die. Showing that they don't really care about anyone but themselves.

    3. There have been 13 school shootings thus far in 2023, which have resulted in the deaths of six students and four adults, according to Education Week.

Proof that, this is a problem and it needs to be addressed.

    4. Burchett also said he doesn’t see “any real role” for Congress to play in reducing gun violence, other than to “mess things up.”

Speculation that even if congress tries to help, it wouldn't do any good.

    5. “It’s a horrible, horrible situation,” Burchett told reporters. “And we’re not gonna fix it. Criminals are gonna be criminals.”

Basically what he's saying is: Criminals are going to be bad no matter what, so there's no point in trying. Overgeneralization fallacy, similar to murphy's law.

    1. The suspect in Monday's mass shooting at a small, private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, had legally purchased seven guns from five different local gun stores, and hid some of those weapons at home, police said Tuesday.

Keep in mind the suspect legally purchased seven guns, legally.

    1. “imagine being 6 or 7 and being told that… very sad,” one person wrote, seemingly estimating how old Bella might’ve been at the time.

    3. as HBO and PlayStation Productions got an actual giraffe to work with the crew to try and capture the magic of the original scene.

Confused- Did they use a real giraffe in the game? Haha, giraffe in a motion capture suit. Not clear.

    4. It’s one of the most widely beloved scenes in the series and has remained so in the decade since its launch

Explains how this scene has been loved for years, and that the way the show portrays it is also beloved. Really hypes up that they used a real giraffe, and not cgi.

    5. the crew lucked out in that there was a zoo nearby with a giraffe that was down to let them borrow said giraffe to shoot the scene.

All the information on the giraffe is that the local zoo "was down" for the crew to use the it for the shot.
