    1. he latter two are best illustrated through the Grand Theft Auto series, where most female characters are said to be portrayed in a misogynic manner. For instance, Grand Theft Auto III allows players to pay for the services of prostitutes to restore their health, and kill them thereafter to gain back some of their money. In Grand Theft Auto V, the supporting women characters were noted to have been constructed on stereotypes: either they are there to be rescued, killed, and put up with, or are just presented as a pleasurable sex object to abuse.

    1. Dietz (1998) examined the depictions of women in a sample of the best-selling video games in 1995 and created a coding schema for describing the different ways women were depicted in the game. Of the games she examined, 41% had no women at all (playable or non-playable) and 28% of the games had sexualized representations of women. Of women present in the games, the most popular depiction of them was of the “damsel in distress” trope seen commonly in television and cinema. Women were also rendered in a curvaceous way, with particular attention on the shape of the body and hips as well as the form of the breasts. Dietz summarizes her research by observing that children and teenagers may inter-nalize these representations into their own understanding of gender.

    1. some gamers bemoan the fact that there are any un-sexualized female characters in gaming at all on Reddit threads or in YouTube videos

    2. “Sexiness is often used in gaming as an excuse for men to play and enjoy playing a female character,”

this is said by Hammer and should be used in conjunction with Fornite and how that stipulation is not the same. Especially because in F, most characters use female characters because of the nature of the game itself-- fun, free for all, free expression, etc.

    1. depicted in tight pants and midriff-baring tops, and people asserted that this meant the focus was not on her strength, but on her sexuality.

Game creators are predominantly male and because of this we have their discourse on woman being presented in video games. Yes some would say there are women who look like this, but how they are created says a lot about how men see women.

    1. Samus was initially presented as a man, the instruction booklet even referring to her as a "he" to maintain the illusion

this was only an "illusion" because of what the armour represented in our culture-- masculinity. There's just no way that a woman could occupy such a strong position.

    1. U.S. culture, however, has historically been more resistant to the feminine male performer, belittling him and disciplining his audiences by tying his femininity to the stigma of homosexuality

I like that the author distinguishes between femininity and homosexuality as the lines can be blurred in how they are represented in the media. Separating them makes you think about what each term actually means. It also helps you differentiate between what a feminine male is and a homosexual male.

    2. The adjective “feminine,” was oddly never employed, although it would have been much more suitable for describing Kurt than “delicate,” especially given that the character had just performed an audition that displayed considerable upper body strength.

Feminine is rarely ever employed but mostly shown in ways without saying. But terms like delicate and fragile still resonate with the audience. But with this specific line, I think something we're missing is seeing WHO described him as these things. That would definitely play a part in how one would analyze an episode like this

    1. A movie's meaning does not lie solely within the 6lmitself br-rt in the interaction of the film and the audience

How does one analyze or measure the interaction between the audience and the film? Also, if 15 people see one movie, there is bound to be 15 different interpretations and meanings. Does that mean all meanings are true, or all false?
