Tea Cake gets rabies from a dog bite while saving Janie during a hurricane and becomes supper scary and violent with Janie. He. Tries to shoot Janie but she shoots him and he dies.

A massive hurricane hits Everglades, Janie and Tea Cake stay until they get flooded in their area. They are riding a cow and a mean dog tries to bite Janie but Tea Cake kills the dog but he got bit on the cheekbone.

Tea Cake is jealous of Mrs. Turners brother and beats Janie for possession and control. They destroy Mrs. Turners restaurant on Saturday night. She returns back to Miami.

Janie and Tea Cake stay at the “the muck” after the harvest. Janie befriends Mrs. Turner a light skinned black woman who hates darker skinned people. Turner tries to convince Janie to leave Tea Cake for her brother that appalls Janie and infuriates Tea Cake.

Janie gets jealous when she sees Nunkie messing around with Tea Cake in the bean fields. Janie also hits Tea Cake and that leads to a fight. He reassures her saying he does not love Nunkie.

Janie and Tea Cake move to Florida to pick beans to live a life of joy. Tea Cake also teaches Janie how to shoot a gun.

Janie and Tea Cake get married but Tea Cake disappears with $200 that is Janie’s money. When he comes back he tells her he threw a party and he says he will never abandon her.

Eatonville people were gossiping about Janie relationship with Tea Cake. She is planning on marrying Tea Cake. She wants to sell the store and start a new life.

Janie and Tea cake start to hang out more, he combs her hair, takes her midnight fishing, and they start getting a deep connection but he is 12 years younger then Janie.

Janie meets a man named Tea Cake but his real name is Vergible Woods. He comes from Orlando and invites Janie to play checkers and drink some drinks,

Janie enjoys being independent and being able to dress and do her hair now she likes. She also begins to be able to have more public conversations.

Janie realizes that Jody is very sick almost near death. She speaks up about her feelings how he controls her. Jody dies and she feels relieved then sad.

Janie breaks from staying silent to her husband, Jody Starks after years of abuse. He insults her in the store and Janie humiliates him. Janie is tired of having to deal with Jody.

In this chapter Janie and Tea Cake arrive in the Everglades where they start to work and live together. They enjoy life experiencing with the community and the other workers. This chapter showed Janie a happy life.
