    1. It is past time that we consider in our public discourse the civic responsibilities of corporations. There must be prescribed forms of public accountability for institutions that have a disproportionate amount of wealth, power, and influence. This is not a matter of demonizing corporations, but an issue of democratic survival.

It is well past time. The elected members of the government have been in there for too long and its time for change. There needs to be a limit a person can serve in government offices just like the president. Some of those people in office are as old as my great-grand mother, and if that doesn't show how wrong that is then I don't know what. It's time to have people who are younger and know how the world is today.

    2. When I examine the present state of American democracy, I believe we are living in one of the most terrifying moments in the history of this nation. We are experiencing a lethal and unprecedented linkage of relative economic decline (i.e., working-class wage stagnation), cultural decay, and political lethargy. No democracy can survive with a middle class so insecure that it is willing to accept any authoritarian option in order to provide some sense of normalcy and security in their lives. It also opens the door for significant segments of that middle class to scapegoat those who are most vulnerable.

It definitely feels like a terrifying moment, I think a lot of us young adults were hoping our lives would just be fine since there were so many wars before our time. However, it feels like we are always on the verge of something happening. Everything today is so expensive and it just keeps going up. Lets take the housing market for example, cities in Colorado that had cheaper houses are now in the 500 to 600 thousand dollar range now, its insane.

    3. It is very difficult to engage in a candid and frank critical discussion about race by assuming it is going to be a rational exchange.

I agree, when someone is talking about race it is always a heated subject, theres a lot of passion in it and sometimes it begins to be irrational, however, as a society we need to grow and be able to talk about this rationally and like adults.

    1. Teens are masters at keeping themselves occupied in the hours after school until way past bedtime. When they’re not doing their homework (and when they are) they’re online and on their phones, texting, sharing, trolling, scrolling, you name it. Of course before everyone had an Instagram account teens kept themselves busy, too, but they were more likely to do their chatting on the phone, or in person when hanging out at the mall. It may have looked like a lot of aimless hanging around, but what they were doing was experimenting, trying out skills, and succeeding and failing in tons of tiny real-time interactions that kids today are missing out on. For one thing, modern teens are learning to do most of their communication while looking at a screen, not another person.

Yes, agreed. People are always on their phones, no matter what time. It's also very distracting when trying to do homework or getting anything done.

    2. The survey results found that Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all led to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness.

I agree with this, people spend a lot of free time on social media and rely on likes and responses on those platforms. When they don't get their likes or their responses, they might get depressed.

    1. Users of social networking websites are prone to security attacks like hacking, sending viruses, identity theft and leaking of critical personal / business data in an organization.

It's super crazy how people do these kinds of things to other people. RUDE.

    2. Social media has been seen to make people susceptible to depression and reduced social skills

Social media creates a false reality, only showing the highlights of a persons life.

    3. Another significant advantage of social media is that it is a vast repository of information. You can get information on current events, history, research facts, or any field specific topic easily. Unlike other media options such as printing and television, social media is unbiased and provides you the true message.

This is so nice, reminds me of a Goldbergs episode that talked about their modern technology was to just go to the library and have the answer to their questions within a few hours. Thank God for the internet.

    4. Social media makes it convenient for people to learn and teach people. There are professionals and experts who can guide you and enhance your knowledge without charging any fee.

      Thank you Zoom.

    5. The biggest advantage of the social media is its power of “connectivity”. People from any part of the world can connect with anybody. This is the fundamental advantage of social media. Irrespective of the religion and location, social media lets you connect to anyone to share thoughts.

      Again, very scary sometimes.

    6. Social media networking aids in enhancing technological skills of a student. It exposes people to various diverse views pertaining to a wide range of things. It has assisted them with communication skills, and learning different cultures from people throughout the globe.Students who use social networking can easily discuss homework and avail assistance on assignments with their peers online. Looking at the potential of social media, many of the public schools have formed a safe social network for students to let them communicate with other students.

This has all been so nice since COVID, it has allowed students to do school online with the help of zoom.

    7. Social networking websites serve as one of the best platforms for people to communicate and stay in touch with friends. It is also a great opportunity to meet new people based on the similar interests and views.

I agree, however, it can also be a very scary place because people lie on social media and pretend to be other people.

    8. If the technology continued to expand in this manner, then more and more people will be willing to grasp its advantages in later years.

With technology expanding in the future, more people to accept it will be the younger generations, since the older generations that don't like technology would have passed by then.

    1. The gambler’s fallacy makes us absolutely certain that, if a coin has landed heads up five times in a row, it’s more likely to land tails up the sixth time. In fact, the odds are still 50-50

There are a lot of things that are 50/50. I feel like when things are going in our favor we tend to think the next move will be against us, and that why someone would pick tails.

    2. Most of them have focused on money. When asked whether they would prefer to have, say, $150 today or $180 in one month, people tend to choose the $150. Giving up a 20 percent return on investment is a bad move—which is easy to recognize when the question is thrust away from the present. Asked whether they would take $150 a year from now or $180 in 13 months, people are overwhelmingly willing to wait an extra month for the extra $30.

This is a good scenario, I feel like people who really need money at that point in time would take the $150, but those who are okay will take the extra $30 and get the $180. It also could depend on patience as well.

    1. For the most part, political leaders have turned to experts to inform their decisions on lockdowns and reopenings.

It's good that the political leaders are turning to experts that way they are informed and are able to make decisions that will be for the better.

    2. such as freedom of movement, freedom of enterprise, and freedom of assembly — have been severely restricted.

Everything changed and our ability to do whatever we wanted came to a stop. Everything unessential shut down, and there were curfews.

    3. 2020 will forever be the year of coronavirus, a cataclysmic event in slow motion that has disrupted people’s lives and disseminated a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability comparable only to times of war.

Started out a great year but then turned very chaotic and made the human race not able to trust being around one another. We are living what will be in the history books one day.
