    1. who we are

Now this is something to ponder.

    2. because it tracked consumers’ location even if they denied permission.)

Now this I don't like. If I don't give you permission to track me and you still do, there should be some kind of law against this-- is there?

    3. sale.

I feel really foolish because I never once questions why Facebook needed to know where I am when I am posting a status or a picture. Why was that necessary? Instead I just use it or don't and I never think twice.

    1. I recently went back and set all of my location data to while using the app. After a while it becomes too much. I was already leery of Alexa and Google Home. I don't know if I want them tracking me in my home. But knowing that it could solve a murder makes me pause and wonder if that sacrifice is worth it.

    2. Ok Google

I must admit that this kind of freaked me out. Like I kind of knew that we were being stalked but I wasn't exactly sure.

    3. music industry

When I think of the internet and music I automatically think of Napster. Sheesh I feel old!

    1. Chapter 9,

I cannot access this file. The page loads to a blank screen. I am able to access it from the Reading Roster but no one has made any annotations on it, so I fear that I am in the wrong place.

    1. This framework would not necessarily require teach-ing workplace genres but does require careful scaffolding that fosters clear articulation and transfer of skills across writing contexts instead of current practices that assume transfer without fostering it.

This sounds like something worth trying in the world of academia. I wonder what this would look like in real time

    2. W e need to help diversify the types of writing taught through a vertical curriculum that begins in high school, continues through college, and specifically fosters transfer across contexts. Pro

      This is important

    3. ‘Standards in many places, have proven nebulous and low,’ [Finn] writes in a coming essay. ‘Accountability’ has turned to test-cramming and bean-counting, often limited to basic reading and math skills” (Dillon).

      This is my reality

    4. In large-scale studies, institutional studies, and our own research, it seems that much of the writing assigned to students across the curriculum does intend to promote deep learning, although very little prepares students for writing beyond the academy

This really made me pause and reflect. I started thinking about how I relate to this as a student and as an educator.

    5. Write appropriately for different audiences

This looks promising. None of the students remain stagnant. They all have growth as a writer from freshman to senior year. I wonder what this attributed to.

    6. hift away from a focus on writing instruction in K–12 classrooms

There is hardly ant explicit writing instruction in schools now.

    1. What’s yours?

I am having issues with finding mine. I put my name where your name is but it is saying page not found.

    2. It’s because we can see everyone’s Four Elements

Clearly, I didn't tag my post correctly because I can't see it here. I typed 4elements into the labels sections on Blogger. I will try again tomorrow in class.

    1. identity-as-researche

This I feel is the most challenging part. It is when you have to decipher what is the most valuable and legitimate piece of information. There is always a chance of being led down a rabbit hole that leads to too little or too much information.

    3. academy.

I think this would be a powerful addition to the education of undergrads. It could be a way for them to define themselves as scholars. And come away from undergrad with more of a sense of their academic self.

    4. This stands out to be because I used to look at research like a personal act done in isolation. Now research is anything but closed. And a large part of that has to do with the way in which we use the seemingly endless resources of the internet.

    1. This is important because I feel that this is something that should be done in tandem and not one at a time.

    2. I feel like as a graduate student I am getting to experience this quite a lot. I would say that most of the research I have or am doing is formulated in such a manner.

    3. I agree. I do not feel like I left undergrad with a feeling of having a research identity.

    4. I've experienced this as a scholar. It is very frustrating.

    5. I agree with this. I find myself constantly brainstorming ideas of things I should or can do. Things I want to research and what is or isn't relevant.

    6. I would agree with this. I feel that students will eventually migrate to the library in a quest to find more information. But first they have to start in a forum where they feel the most confident and comfortable.

    7. I challenge this because many of the libraries have online databases that direct students to an online place to continue their research. I feel that you can start and do the bulk of your academic research online and still be considered an academic. If there are other resources and sources needed from a library then it is smart to travel there. But If you are going to be on trend and with the most recent theories and practice online databases may be a great place to start.

    1. Children’s books are becoming digital

This made me excited because I love that my girls that are 9 and 6 can read books on a tablet. It teaches them how to be tech savvy from a really young age.
