Samus Aran
Despite being a wiki themed around Metroid, we had been lacking a page for Samus herself for quite some time. I've made this one while trying to follow wiki etiquette. Even though this wiki was started by someone else as a sort of joke, there's no harm in some professionalism.
In MCD
Because this wiki is also dedicated to the Metroid Community Discord (MCD), a brief section related to it is included in this article.
(Metroid, 1986, NES/Metroid: Zero Mission, 2004, Game Boy Advance)
I've included these credits at the end of certain paragraphs to indicate which game the events take place in. The release year and primary platform are included, with each game having their official Wikipedia page linked as well.
To note: Metroid and Metroid II have both received remakes which now override the originals in canon. In spite of that, both versions are listed in this article.

Samus Aran was born to Rodney and Virginia Aran on Colony K2L. The colony received a visit from the Chozo species, during which Samus met their chief Old Bird. Disaster struck when the colony was later attacked by Space Pirates seeking to steal its resources. Led by Ridley, the Pirates' efforts were thwarted by Rodney, who sacrificed himself to destroy Ridley's flagship and the materials his forces sought. Ridley eviscerated Virginia as she protected Samus from him, but was forced to retreat following the explosion caused by Rodney's gambit. Samus, now orphaned and the only survivor of the colony, was found by Old Bird and the Chozo again. Old Bird decided to bring her to their homeworld Zebes to raise her in their image. Samus was infused with their DNA and trained to become a warrior, surpassing peak human physical condition by age 14. With the Power Suit and confidence of the Chozo, Samus left them to join the Galactic Federation Police. She would serve in their forces for a time, during which befriending Anthony Higgs and serving under Adam Malkovich. While she proved herself to be a capable soldier, a key sacrifice made by Adam saw her leave the Federation and disappear for several years.
Much of this part of the character's backstory comes from non-game supplementary material, primarily a manga series released in 2003-2004 in Japan only. Because it is licensed, it features some narrative elements contradictory to the games. I've omitted certain details to make it fit better as a result. An unofficial translation of the manga in its entirety can be found here:
The original Metroid was primarily created by Yoshio Sakamoto (co-producer), Gunpei Yokoi (co-producer), Makoto Kano (director), Hiroji Kiyotake (artist), and Hirokazu Tanaka (musician).[1
It should be noted that these are not the full credits for the original game. In addition to numerous programmers and testers, the chief director working alongside Yoshio Sakamoto was a handheld hardware engineer named Satoru Okada. Unlike the rest of the highlighted names, however, he was not involved with future games in the series.
