Tea cake is very different from Logan or Jody already resorting to gambling after spending all their money borrowed from Janie.

Tea Cake and Janie have gotten closer and closer together way better then all her previous relationships with Joe or with Logan.
They played away the evening again. Everybody was surprised at Janie playing checkers but they liked it. Three or four stood behind her and coached her moves and generally made merry with her in a restrained way. Finally everybody went home but Tea Cake.
Jaime seems like she is now able to connect to others unlike before.
They both laughed and she handed him two kitchen matches out of a box for that purpose. It was time for him to go but he didn’t.

They towns people start talking behind his back as they start be become afraid of him, as he climbs in power

This shows that Janie is still very young when she got married off.
She felt an answer seeking her, but where? When? How? She found herself at the kitchen door and stumbled inside. In the air of the room were flies tumbling and singing, marrying and giving in marriage.
She finds herself seeking something she doesn't understand, like a revaluation on what she wants.
So Janie waited a bloom time, and a green time and an orange time. But when the pollen again gilded the sun and sifted down on the world she began to stand around the gate and expect things.
After Nanny’s death Janie seems to be at a lost of thing wasting away season after season, but still seemed eager, and waiting for somthing.
