      What does this mean? Find other words Tan uses to describe her mother's English speaking skills. Is she consistent in her descriptions, or do her descriptions change through the course of the essay?

      In a couple of paragraphs, you will notice how Tan illustrates her story with scenes -- short moments complete with summarized action, dialogue, and character. Why does Tan include these scenes?
