    1. Force and fraud are in war the two cardinal virtues. Justice and injustice are none of the faculties neither of the body nor mind.

      I think this contradicts everything that he said because he just explained throughout this whole page how it’s ruled by the mind

    2. Again, men have no pleasure, but on the contrary a great deal of grief, in keeping company where there is no power able to overawe them all.

      This is a very poetic way of saying that ego is what rules all mankind no matter what setting we’re in

    3. r they see their own wit at hand and other men’s at a distance. But this proveth rather that men are in that point equal than unequal. For there is not ordinarily a greater sign of the equal distribution of anything than that every man is contented with his share.

      Men love themselves to the point that their ego overshadows their truth... its a fact unfortunately (specifically men)

    4. d, as to the faculties of the mind, setting aside the arts grounded upon words and especially that skill of proceeding upon general and infallible rules called science, which very few have and but in few things, as being not a native faculty born with us, nor attained, as prudence, while we look after somewhat else, I find yet a greater equality amongst men than that of strength. For prudence is but experience, which equal time equally bestows on all men in those things they equally apply themselves unto. That which may perhaps make such equality incredible is but a vain conceit of one’s own wisdom, which almost all men think they have in a greater degree than the vulgar, that is, than all men but themselves, and a few others whom by fame or for concurring with themselves they approve.

    1. These people make themselves independent of their objectȂsacquiescence by displacing what theymainly value from being loved on to loving;

      Is settling and disregarding what you value truly love though? Or is it a way to fill a void which overall will never be filled b/c you’re settling for less?

    2. ȁcheap enjoymentȂȱextolled in the anecdoteȯthe enjoyment obtained by putting a bare leg from under the bedclothes on a cold winter night and drawing it in again. If there had been no railway to conquer distances, my child would never have left his native town and I should need no telephone to hear has voice; if travelling across the ocean by ship had not been introduced, my friend would not have embarked on his sea-voyage and I should not need a cable to relieve my anxiety about hi

      I think that we should also acknowledge the advancement in technology where as social media has become a huge way for others to have “cheap enjoyment”. And even though it is free we should note that things used to have access to them aren’t cheap. Therefore it’s cheap depending on the perspective.

    3. an extraordinary advance in the natural sciences and in their technical application and has established his control over nature in a way never before imagined

      It is true that technology tends to advanced but this is only as mankind seems to worsen depending on what you deem as morally right. It contributes to human happiness not being as great as it could be.

      Besides that he claims that feminists have had little trouble showing their oppression, I agree with his statement in terms of what oppression is when it comes to issues surrounding feminism.
