iii. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
Something that i am trying to do with my speaking is to cut out the words "UM" or "UH" instead take a pause, i think this will help me get my message across more clearly
-
v. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.
I think that a lot of people think that intelligence is shown by using big confusing words, but i think that real intelligence is clearly and meticulously getting a message across

While freely conceding that the Soviet régime exhibits certain features which the humanitarian may be inclined to deplore, we must, I think, agree that a certain curtailment of the right to political opposition is an unavoidable concomitant of transitional periods, and that the rigours which the Russian people have been called upon to undergo have been amply justified in the sphere of concrete achievement.
I feel like most people wouldnt even understand this, this makes me wonder what hidden meaning and messages could be told in the messages of world and local leaders today.

Millions of peasants are robbed of their farms and sent trudging along the roads with no more than they can carry: this is called transfer of population or rectification of frontiers.
I can see that there could be a problem behind forgetting what is meant behind phrases or policies or even procedures such as these. Forgetting the real life affect that it has on people and seeing the name of the operation only.
-
In our time it is broadly true that political writing is bad writing.
I think that most speeches in general aren't written very well. The other day i listened to the heisman speech by travis hunter and it was so hard to follow along and made no sense.
-
In the case of a word like democracy, not only is there no agreed definition, but the attempt to make one is resisted from all sides
Very interesting point, something that i have never considered before.
-
In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and literary criticism, it is normal to come across long passages which are almost completely lacking in meaning
I 100% agree with what he said. I feel like a lot of time people are more worried about the length of a project rather than the actual content. If we were to focus more on getting a point across rather then trying to make something long or artistic writing would be very different.
-
The first is staleness of imagery;
I think that the ability to create an image is something so imporant when it comes to writing. One of my favorite authors masterfully can create an image in my head and i love listening to him because of it.
-
think clearly is a necessary first step toward political regeneration:
Like mentioned in the last Article that we read, "You are what you think", where and what we think about will steer us where we will go
-
A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks.
Pure poetry. With failure come more failure unless something real is done.
-
like preferring candles to electric light or hansom cabs to aeroplanes
I love how he uses these items to show a stark contrast and a wild belief, I think his use of examples really illustrates what he was trying say

It teaches patience'
Something that is becoming more and more dififcult for people to do, be patient. With the ease of Amazon same day shipping, and the instant dopamine from scrolling it isn't easy to be patient with all the overstimulation.

unedited moments'
What a great phrase, Unedited moments. The real life!

we flee from soiitude
I can just imagine some dude pretending to be on the phone to not seem alone lol
-
As we get used to being shortchanged on conversation and to getting by with less'
I agree but i also disagree. I think that technology has also facilitaded converstion with so many people. I also think that it has given us many many topics of conversation

Noitoo f""g "g", feople.walked with their heads up' lookingat the water, the sky, the sand and at onl Jno,fr"r, tulking.

At home, we can "r*i. ,u"r.o spaces: tt-,. t it.rt"n, the dining room' we can make ourcars .,device-fiee zones
Something that my friends and i started doing is whenever we are together playing a game or doing somehting we put our phones on the table and whoever touched their phone first lost

Itis as though we use them, need them as spare parts to supporlour increasingly fragileselves
Something that my older brother always told me about social media is that it gives me a "Fake sense of belonging or fake gratification"
-
We think constant connection will make us feel less lonely'
I decided to delete social media a little while ago, at first it was pretty hard. I was worried that i was going to miss out on events or people invitng me to stuff but then i realized that the people that wanted to do stuff would just text or call me, and that is excatly what happened!

"l shale, therefore I am'"
I love this idea. A very modern day of I think therefore i am. Such an interesting take on that common phrase. However i think that it works very well with todays society, almost everything that we think we share or post.

Human relationships are rich; they're messy and dem-anding' We have learned the habitof cleaning them up with technology.
Like we mentioned today in class, its easier to text someone a long text and hope it resolves the problem than it is to talk something through with someone.
-
At home, families sit together, texting and reading e-mail' At work executives text duringboard meetings. We text (and shop and go on Facibook).during classes and when we'reon dates.
This reminds me of someone i went to high school with, we were friends with her but in every interaction she was on her phone, even one time we were all swimming at someones house she was on her phone in the corner. It can be a real problem for som people
