    1. There are a lot of dystopias around these days, and this makes sense, because we have a lot of fears about the future

I strongly agree with this, because of movies that are dystopias and how the world is panning out in our world today. Many people, including myself;f fear what the future has for us.

    2. There is a sufficiency, in other words; adequacy forall is not physically impossible.

Adequacy: the state or quality of being adequate. Adequate: acceptable in quality and quantity

    3. They are not physical limitations we can’t overcome. So, granting the complications and difficulties, the task at hand is to imagine ways forward to that better place

Definitely believe in this! I feel a lot of the time people do not put in the effort and care to do this.

    1. The practice of placing individuals under “observation” is a natural extension of a justice imbued with disciplinary methods and examination procedures. Is it surprising that the cellular prison, with its regular chronologies, forced labour, its authorities of surveillance and registration, its experts in normality, who continue and multiply the functions of the judge, should have become the modern instrument of penality ? Is it surprising that prisons resemble factories, schools, barracks, hospitals, which all resemble prisons

All of this plays into something I have noticed a while back and actually got into trouble for bringing up in class one day in the 5th grade. I told the teacher that school is literally jail, we listen to higher ups and get to go outside for a short amount of time, get breakfast and lunch, which is always nasty. I can go deeper, but I definitely feel that the government did these type of things on purpose, with the structure, schedule, etc. of schools, factories, and hospitals.

    2. Five or six days after the beginning of the quarantine, the process of purifying the houses one by one is begun. All the inhabitants are made to leave; in each room “the furniture and goods” are raised from the ground or suspended from the air; perfume is poured around the room; after carefully sealing the windows, doors and even the keyholes with wax, the perfume is set alight

Another just like when Covid was here, many people were spraying down houses when someone in their house was sick and when they did they did not leave a mark uncleaned or untouched.

    3. Each street is placed under the authority of a syndic, who keeps it under surveillance; if he leaves the street, he will be condemned to death. On the appointed day, everyone is ordered to stay indoors:

This brings me back to when covid first started and we all were told to stay inside by the government and rarely come outside if we wanted to stay safe and not die.

    1. Again, men have no pleasure, but on the contrary a great deal of grief, inkeeping company where there is no power able to overawe them all

To me I believe Hobbes is saying men do not want to be around people who will help them be great and develop. Instead, they rather bring themselves down, which is not doing anything.

    2. The notions of right and wrong, justice and injustice, have there no place. Where there is no common power, there is no law; whereno law, no injustice

I want to say I disagree, but then I agree. I agree because where there is no common power, no one shall be in control and in any competition. But then again where there is no law, there is no injustice? If there is no law, how can anything be unfair? Unless I am misunderstanding something.

    3. For such is the nature of men that, howsoever theymay acknowledge many others to be more witty or more eloquent or morelearned, yet they will hardly believe there be many so wise as themselves, forthey see their own wit at hand and other men’s at a distance.

To me, Hobbes believes that some men do not see what they already have before looking at others and seeing how great they are. I believe this, because many people wish they had with others have, but forget about things they already have that the other may not.

    1. If private property were abolished, all wealth held in common, andeveryone allowed to share in the enjoyment of it, ill-will and hostility would disappear among men.Since everyone's needs would be satisfied, no one would have any reason to regard another as hisenemy; all would willingly undertake the work that was necessary.

This statement right here to me is an example of a Utopia. This is something that would possibly work to create ease amongst all people: the rich, the middle class, and poor. To establish all are equal and could possibly stop the violence, but this will never happen.

    1. When our will finds expression outside ourselves in actions performed by others,we do not waste our time and our power of attention in examining whether they haveconsented to this. This is true for all of us. Our attention, given entirely to the success ofthe undertaking, is not daimed by them as long as they are docile. . _ _Rape is a temble caricature of love from which consent is absent. After rape, oppression is the second horror of human existence. It is a temble caricature of obedience.-SIMONE WEILI have proposed an enabling conception of justice.Justice should refer notonly to distribution, but also to the institutional conditions necessary for thedevelopment and exercise of individual capacities and collective communication_ and cooperation

I really enjoy how Young introduces what she will be addressing in this read. I feel she comes strong and I really enjoy that she did. It shows that she takes this matter very seriously and makes the reader want to read more and I feel that is one of the key goals for an author to achieve.
