    1. Throughout U.S. history, courts have become more involved in helping school districts make decisions that affect how localities and states conduct schooling (Thomas, 2019). As diversity increases throughout the United States, school policies and procedures continue to be challenged in our court systems. When pursuing legal action, the goal is to ensure that schools provide a fair and reasonable system of education for all students.

I am aware that throughout U.S. History courts and the government had become more involved in helping school districts make decisions as diversity increases in the country but to what extent is this true? Is it the same for private or charter schools? Do these schools have more or less court and government involvement?

    2. All members of the school community have the right to due process with the purpose of providing a fair trial. The central premise of due process is fairness. A school district can be sued if it is believed that it was unfair or unreasonable. This legal argument can be brought by a teacher, student, parent, or community member. Anyone who believes that they were unfairly or unreasonably impacted by a policy or procedure of the school can bring a legal case against the school.

I highlighted this part of the text because it is interesting to learn about due process. I am surprised to learned about the cases mentioned. I think this the first time I read about all these codes of ethics as well as due process and I think that it is helpful to start informing ourselves more on things like this because it is going to be apart of our careers. As teachers as well as our students, parents, and community members we all can be impacted by policies and procedures.

    3. The NEA Code of Ethics guides your teaching behaviors by placing your students central to your practice. Always consider that you must treat all students equitably, not necessarily equally.

This is something I want to be mindful of as I am becoming a teacher and I am starting my service learning once again. I want to learn more about the codes of ethics mentioned in the reading and become for familiar with them. I will be serving at a school where most of the students come from hispanic families, there is a lot of migrant students and students that are english learners. They all have different families and have different situations at home that may or may not affect their potential at school. Therefore, it is important that we treat students fairly making connections and taking the time to learn about their different situations.
