In his Axioms of Communication, Watzlawick listed the first axiom as “one cannot not communicate”. Any mark, sign, sound, or gesture communicates meaning based on social agreement (or in terms of UX Design, social signifiers)
This was important as the quote means to show that any gesture or sign communicates meaning. In terms of UX every aspect of design speaks for itself.

By leaving an illusion that something is scarce and can go away easily, the user feels attracted to the item such that they will buy it and assume they are having the best deal.

If there are too many steps the user can get overwhelmed. With a streamlined design where its easy for the user to take in and not get overwhelmed is best.

By making the user believe that they can find a better deal for items then they are likely to chose the option they believe they are getting a deal for.

Users are more likely to remember the first and last item rather than whatever is in the middle.
