      The phrase romantic nationalism is really interesting to see and really frames the white/european view of the Americas as fresh space for them to expand.       The language used with as blessing of the Lord puts into perspective how little help was extended even for the bare minimum. It wasn't a requirement or common to always be extended this 'service' so much so that its almost a blessing of god when it occurs.
