    1. The sides at this point were clearly drawn. France, Great Britain and Russia were allied producing what would be known as the Triple Entente. Germany and Austria-Hungary, along with the failing Ottoman Empire, became the Central Powers. This would not be just a war among the great powers, but would include their colonies as well. The great war had begun.

    2. In an almost domino effect, Austria's request to Serbia to acquiesce and submit to Austro-Hungarian control was met by the Serbs with silence, resulting in Russia coming to Serbia's aid. This led to Germany reaffirming its relationship with Austria-Hungary in support, which lead to Russia mobilizing an army along the Austrian border, which prompted Germany to issue an ultimatum to Russia and thus mobilize its own troops . War had quickly cropped up in the span of a month. Germany would go on to declare war against France and invade Belgium, which would prompt Great Britain to honor its alliance to protect the country of Belgium's neutrality and declare war against Germany.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on June 28, 1914, the heir apparent to the Austro-Hungarian Empire,  by the Serbian nationalist group the Black Hand resulted in a world war not because of the importance of Ferdinand to Austria-Hungary, but because his death brought to the forefront the vine of alliances across the major European powers. 

      This is well done, simple, straight forward. However, maybe we can brainstorm some ways to rework the "Vine of alliances" I love the imagery, but for our target, may be a bit much.
