    1. Bauer said he might demonstrate his neutrality on the subject by lecturing in a referee jersey.

Is this really neutral since it has to do with sports, or could he mean it more towards the fact that referees must be neutral towards both teams during a game?

    1. Theimperious Campbell not only ignored the mayor's advice but alsomade a diva's entrance at the Forum, taking his customary aisleseat in a corner of the arena a few minutes into the firstperiod

This just gives us more insight on the type of person Campbell was.

    1. According to Irvin’s son, his father insisted until his death that the officials altered the facts in their account to please Campbell.

This shows us the power Campbell had as well as the feelings towards him.

    1. So far, pretty normal for those days. The rest will always be disputed

Surprising to see that these injuries and brawls were considered "pretty normal" back then. Goes to show how aggressive it was.

    1. a man who would adopt him as his son

This desire is interesting to me. Out of all the things he wanted he also wanted a father. It took a dream to help him realize this. Even in this time he wanted one, but at the same time it makes sense.

    2. Besides, from morning until evening our fireplace is almost always surrounded by Savages, above all, they seldom fail to be there at mealtimes. If you happen to have anything more than usual, let it be ever so little, you must reckon on most of these Gentlemen as your guests; if you do not share with them, you will be considered mean. As regards the food, it is not so bad, although we usually content ourselves with a little corn, or a morsel of dry smoked fish, or some fruits, of which I shall speak further on.

Through everything they are dealing with, even having to share what little food they have with the "savages" they do not complain about the food. I feel like this expresses their perseverance and mindset. Focus on what good things they have, no matter how small.
