    1. Additionally, first-year students are being assigned success coaches

There are flaws in this that I, and many of my other friends, have dealt with first hand.

    2. moving from a traditional university model to an integrated, interdisciplinary, cluster-based model that Birx believes will give students the combination of education and engaged scholarship necessary to compete successfully in an increasingly complex and interdisciplinary world.

I think it is a step in the right direction.

    1. You should build on our work, let us teach you about the theory that we have learned, and look at our programs to see how we can lay a foundation for this new initiative.

I feel like a lot of people don't understand what our program is. All of the students in this program have created personalized majors, and it takes a lot of work, thought, and time.

    2. That way, students are gaining experience and knowledge rather than just credit and test scores.

Having experience in the field is more valuable then have 90 credits in the field!

    3. students should be able to have a way to form their cluster or major in a way that allows them to deeply focus on what they want to do, rather than have to take a series of courses assigned by a major.

Exactly why I am an IDS major!

    4. First-Year Seminar should in some ways explain the challenges and barriers that universities set up to doing interdisciplinary work so students can come up with ways around them.

I felt like my FYS was just a waste of my time, I felt like it was chaotic and didn't make sense and there was no connection throughout the course.

    5. We hope that projects won’t just involve students; we hope that students will be able to have input in the design of projects as well

This is important, including students in the creation of projects will make it more exciting than just taking part in doing the project.

    6. the opportunity to further internship and experiential knowledge in organizations and businesses outside of PSU

I wrote about this in my essay. The application of the knowledge you learn in class to real world experience is so valuable.

    7. sometimes it works better for us to focus on what we are passionate about and what we might like to do after graduation and design an education based on those interests rather than starting with the educational plan and then just looking for a job once we complete it.

The mission statement of my high school was "personalize education in order to maximize individual success", yet nothing was personalized. It was cookie-cutter curriculum and you had to take the standard English, math, science, and history courses. It's like they understood the importance of personalized and interdisciplinary education, but never took the steps to do so.

    1. Most fields experience exciting periods of rapid, sometimes revolutionary, advances, followed by periods of comparative stagnation.

Stagnation after growth is hard to deal with. It kills your motivation.

    2. o people in our own time could rationally proclaim that they knew everything about everything, or even everything about their own fields

It's not possible to know everything, but some people think they do.

    1. students who are not studying all aspects of their field using an interdisciplinary approach are unfortunately labeled at a disadvantage in my eyes.

While having specific education in one area may be beneficial, having broad knowledge throughout multiple disciplines as well will just make you that much better at what you do.

    1. Because at the end of the day, your opinion and your thoughts matter, and you need to make those important to you before they are important to anyone else.

Yes, yes, yes. So important to realize.

    1. If students go to school and pursue a single degree without challenging their minds with different perspectives and disciplines, aren’t they depriving themselves of a brilliant opportunity to grow as an individual?

Interdisciplinarity is such a helpful thing to accomplish during your education.

    2. Many students entering college for the first time are surprised by the way it changes their thinking, identity, and perspective. The unique environment created by residential college life is an incredible experience for most young, college-aged students

This statement is 100% accurate, and it's a good thing! College has been an experience that I am glad I get.

    3. By eighteen, most students are excited about life and eager to experience what it has to offer, which is why they should be shown all the options.

This is so true, once I was nearing the end of my senior year of high school I began to be more excited by the idea of my future and how my life will go.

    1. Sometimes we break problems down into smaller parts so that we can solve it piece by piece.

This is, in my opinion, the best way to handle problems. Trying to solve a complex issue all at once is too difficult.

    1. Most majors and fields look at parts of the world, but there is something beautiful and exciting about trying to step back and see how things connect.

Everything connects to each other in some way, it's crazy.

    2. Having a broad understanding of many disciplines to gain a better comprehend and come up with a conclusion on why something is the way it is

Knowledge is power, the more you have the better off you are.

    1. Gaining ownership over the data is vital—but until students see this domain as a space that rewards rigor and experimentation, it will not promote student agency. Traditional assignments don’t necessarily empower students when they have to post them in a public space

Ownership doesn't matter if the students aren't using it to their advantage.

    1. a student’s work exists only inside a learning management system and cannot be accessed once the semester is over

This makes a student's work seem less important than it actually is.

    2. Student privacy has become one of the hottest issues in education

Once you post something online, it's there forever regardless of whether or not you delete it. Posting too much personal information or having public profiles could jeopardize your safety and privacy.
