    7. My theory about what is happening in the poem is that the story is being told by a woman in her 30's, who was forced into marrying Eadwacer by her parents when she was young. Her parents were people with a high status family on the island and so when she told them that she had fallen in love with Wulf, they told her that he wasn't good enough for her and to forget about him. She ended up marrying Eadwacer but she didn't want to be with him so during the early years of Eadwacer and the narrarators marriage, the narrarator always goes to see Wulf and be with him because that is her one and only love, she loved Wulf so much, that it caused her pain. In the peak of her affairs with Wulf one of the captains (police, guards etc) caught her and Wulf and told her parents. Her parents didn't want their family name to be ruined so they blackmailed Wulf and told him to leave the Island and to never come back or he would surely die. On the other hand she wanted people to know that she was devoted to Wulf, especially Eadwacer, she wasn't ashamed for people to know but then she'd realized that when her parents would find out, they would likely make him move away. At the end of the poem she tells Eadwacer that since they were never in love their bond would be broken and that was how they had to live because she couldn't leave the island and Wulf could never come back.
