      I really appreciate this clarifying distinction (and sorry to be late to the annotating party). I, too, feel skeptical, though I understand the desire for packing, mostly from a basic consumer perspective. The desire to make things easy doesn't come without a price, and a severe one at that when we are considering human interaction and growth.

      Unlike gun violence statistics, which largely don't exist thanks to NRA lobbying and dismal legislating, there's plenty of statistical information on the impact of video games on the human psyche. I just don't think they're going to find the answers they're hoping to find. Then again, this administration is fact-resistant at best.

      Hybrid Ped is such a gift! It's thought provoking, human and challenges assumptions and long-held beliefs.

      There's still a heavy stigma when it comes to online learning. I'm really floored at the comments I still hear about it not be legitimate learning or as rigorous as lectur hall learning. Some of that is definite elitism--especially when it comes to returning, adult learners. I like to explain to people that planning for an online course or class can be more difficult. You may have more students enrolled. You may not have the benefit of visual or voice clues. You have to rely on your other senses. It's cool and challenging to design for an online audience!

    3. Instructional designers lack ownership to make improvements in the environments they work in

      The last ELI webinar I attended covered lack of autonomy among ID staff. It also highlighted the fact that many IDs desire better training on working with faculty and conducting subject-specific research (which is surprisingly not a part of their job descriptions). It was really fascinating and simultaneously concerning.
