how do we push against what they feel is the right way to write? They've been doing it that way for SOOOO long that it's borderline become a belief. And we all know how easy it is to change someone's beliefs.

This connected with me. In my realm, it's not the pretty shots, the fancy technologies, the technical know how. It's what we do with it to tell stories. To really show the journey. And to share it with the world. (And my teaching often employs the "this is how, but how isn'e enough strat)

    5. most of my students be-lieve that the goal of a paper is to express a point you have, ratherthan to make a point through the marshaling of reasons, explana-tions, clarifications, and supporting details.

ALL THE TIME with any writing

    6. they just keep saying whatever it is they want to say.

... its a real problem, even in mediamaking. Creators want to say exactly what they want without giving space to listening to feedback or changing their minds

    7. hat I hope they had learned and what they need to unlearn,or at least complicate.

That's a great place to start from as I think about incorporating more writing into my coursework

    8. exasperating—as the issue isso complex.

Admittedly, that's why I tend to avoid it. Especially in my super-practical, I haven't done much writing, leaving the lion's-share of the work to projects.

Turning off knowing any better, "Video" section could be read as if I need a video captured too, event or from a VHS/DVD, or as a section of all Video that we do.

Seems the whole page is about Panopto - Rename to Panopto Video Platform

    1. IntlTechTips IntlTechTips

no idea what that meant until i clicked on it.

Is it something that we are responsible for? The info on the page feels really support desk-y

    1. For academic videos which are not your own productions and for related copyright questions, please contact Trexler Library staff to inquire about Trexler Reserves.

There's another way to put this - something to the effect "if you require digital copies of copyright video material for your class,..." something that describes the ask a little more.

    2. These Panopto resources discuss optimal screen settings and configurations for devices while using Panopto.

seems like an advanced thing - maybe move to such a location

    1. Remember that in Canvas, Media Gallery houses faculty video collections for students; My Media is where your individual videos are located, acting as your personal video library. Faculty can move videos from My Media to Media Gallery using these following six steps: Go to your particular Canvas course page. Select Media Gallery. Once in Media Gallery, select the add media (blue button). Open list of videos owned/published. Click the box to the left of the video/file. Select publish button in upper right.

      update

    2. For academic videos which are not your own productions and for related copyright questions, please contact Trexler Library staff to inquire about Trexler Reserves.

The page could do more to bring attention to the idea of capturing/converting and maybe even event capture. I get questions allllll the time about both.

Maybe the page could be renamed to Video Hosting?

    3. Video creation and video lecture caption are two areas growing within higher education. There are two main areas discussed on this webpage where video content comes into the general Muhlenberg community:

needs new intro - this just feels old to say that video creation is growing in higher ed.

    1. Have suggestions for additional items for our new WebConferencing website? Please contact the team at itms@muhlenberg.edu with items you will like included or if something you are seeking is not currently present/available.

      replace with consistent footer

    2. Explore the Tech Tuesday video Tech Tuesday video showcasing Zoom and its features. This second Tech Tuesday video about Zoom also provides some advantages to using webconferencing for your students as part of weatherproofing your course.

might wanna watch and see if they need updating/archiving

    3. For those interested in using other tools within Canvas, such as Panopto, VoiceThread, etc.,  please note that our new website will ultimately include areas for the Learning Management System, Collaboration Tools, WebConferencing, and Media Services, so that each set of tools will have its own webpage accessible through the main ITMS website.

      del

    4. You can search for the application and enter your meeting that way in the event that the application portal/OneLogIn tile is not working optimally for you at any given time.  For more on this option, please review this ITMS video

      This is probably resolved

And jeez Tom, clean up your desktop when recording.

    5. We also have Zoom security recommendations for you to review before getting started as well as a refresher at any time.

Seems like a good sidebar - feels out of place here.

The doc probably needs a looksie.

    6. Learn more about equipment options for a Zoom session (if needed) via the Media Services form [form for faculty/staff only; requires log-in to access form].

isn't there a way to learn without requesting (don't we have a doc somewhere with some info on it?)

    1. This site is under construction. In the meantime, do access the content via this tip of the week documentation link.

I think we just need to get a place to record or a schedule to keep to.

    1. As positions within Instructional Technology & Media Services become available, they are advertised in Handshake. Students may also express interest in an email to us at ITMS@muhlenberg.edu or stop by our offices in the basement level of Ettinger.

We could do more here to sell what student employment in ITMS/Media Services looks like - what they learn, the experience, etc...

    1. Have suggestions for additional items for our new Media Services website? Please contact the team at itms@muhlenberg.edu with items you will like included or if something you are seeking is not currently present/available.

might be good to come up with a general mediaservices footer with content/contact to have on all MS subpages.

    2. It's a new semester The tech walls and in-classroom technology is described in this worksheet about tech walls. Learn about the new touch panels at Muhlenberg in classrooms around campus in this short ITMS video regarding the features and functionality. Remember to place media service requests as early as possible. The Media Services form does allow placement of requests up to deadline, although we welcome early submissions!

Some of this can be combined with a classroom tech area

    3. Most classrooms are furnished with a “Techwall” system which has a standardized bank of equipment including a computer, Blu-ray player, VHS player, Document camera, and VGA/HDMI auxiliary laptop cables. You may learn more about these classroom technologies in this documentation regarding tech walls here at Muhlenberg.

This can live in classroom technology and link back to here

    4. For those interested in using other tools within Canvas, such as Zoom, Panopto, etc., please note that our new website will ultimately include areas for the Learning Management System, Collaboration Tools, WebConferencing, etc. so that each set of tools will have its own webpage accessible through the main ITMS website.

don't think we need this anymore. or maybe a mod version that redirects some of these items to ITMS main site

    5. For assistance with presentation or event media specifically, the Support Desk is the first point of contact for faculty/staff.  If you’re in need of assistance with a campus club event, students may contact Student Engagement. If ever not certain, you may contact the Media Services team with your requests.

this is kinda hidden info on who to reach out to and it's a little confusing. Maybe we do a workflow text/diagram and why the flow exists that way.

    6. Media Services relies on student employees to perform many of the duties associated with the department. Students are trained to handle routine requests and basic setups. Student employees with specific training may be available to assist in some special events. In some instances, charges will be incurred for special requests.

could use some headings/categorization of info.

    7. If you need immediate assistance in a classroom during office hours, please use the Tech Support (black button) phone located on most podiums, or near teaching stations.

      Imagery helps

    8. In general, we have designed this webpage into sections based on existing user familiarity with Muhlenberg’s Media Services as well as the situation bringing you to our resources.

messages that directly address how things are setup are fine, but organization should be consistent across the entire site then.

    9. The following services are available: audio/video presentation set-ups for on-campus locations classroom technology support and troubleshooting technology system design and implementation, and classroom/conference room technology training.

now that I'm looking at this list, I'm starting to see iconography too for lists/menus.

    10. The Media Services team supports and assists with classroom presentation technologies and computer setup for presentations.

Y'all do so much more and deserve a better description

    1. Our learning management system is a space where you can connect with and interact with course content, whether as faculty, staff, or as a student here at Muhlenberg. This can include posting/submitting assignments, constructing course content, taking online quizzes/tests, completing assignment grading, etc.

Decent job at describing what an LMS is, but will peeps know that Canvas is an LMS - most will just call it Canvas without referring to it as an LMS. Maybe the page label should be Canvas.

    1. It's a new semester (Mirroring 360) Refresh your recollection on how to install the Chrome extension and on how to work Mirroring 360 with the resources in the "I'm new to this" section above, and remember to check your classroom computer for the Mirroring 360 installation.

Not sure on the worth here.

    2. know

I'm not sure why, but using "know" as a directive verb in the imperative sentence always felt icky and harsh. Directing someone to KNOW something... "hey you, yeah you, know this... learn it...bring it into your soul..." Alison used it all over the place.

    3. this ITMS documentation on subgroups within VoiceThread.

the doc, like many of the support docs has really maligned and disfigured imagery. Lots to fix there. Consistent formatting needed too.

    4. General Support Information

This whole piece seems to be very out of context. We don't even know what VT or Hypothesis is yet. I understand the want for quick links, but not at the expense of comprehension.

    5. Three main collaboration tools currently in use at Muhlenberg include VoiceThread, Mirroring360, and Hypothes.is respectively. You may use these collaboration tools as faculty, staff, or as students.

I don't think this is true

    6. At Muhlenberg, there are three main ways we augment active learning and engagement with online content: the layering of interactive presentation slides, the sharing of computer screens while working, and the collaborative annotation of common reading documents.

Generic, oversimplication of collaboration with technology.

    1. What we offer Accessibility/Documentation Menu of Items Open Hours Calendar

While 100% accessible. It's hard to recognize this as a submenu/links/page jumps/ Again, the side menu could take the place of some of this and we can simplify this home page.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for anchor jump navs, but there's other ways to do it that are more obvious and look better.

    2. The instructional technology and media services (ITMS) team assists faculty, students, and staff with their technology interests and needs at Muhlenberg.

Super broad and actually steps on support desk's toes. This statement can be attributed to most (if not all) of OIT. This can be more specified to our area.

We might want to right here differentiate the general ITMS and Media Services -- with link to that subpage.

    3. About Us and Contact Information

There's just wayyy too much stuff in this menu. I think it's acceptable to have information grouped up and two clicks away.

      Also, there's no "home" link.

    4. Menu of Items

ugg. too much? It's almost a site map. Maybe that's what we do. Have a link to a site map at the bottom of each page that shows, in order, with subpage justification, the entire ITMS site's worth of links. I've done that on sites before and it's a great way to essentially give users a directory if they need it.

    5. Accessibility/Documentation Throughout our web pages, you will encounter links to our documentation, provided via Google Docs.  To download any of these items, you will navigate to “file,” then select “download as.” This step allows you access to our documents both online and offline, as well as in your preferred file format (.doc, .pdf, among others). You may find that this format also helps with translation of text to preferred language.  We have included clickable table of contents to navigate to particular sections of a document, although if you select the paper icon tab in the left corner of the current document (next to the page ruler and directly below the printer icon), Google automatically provides an outline view of the text provided.  We strive to provide accessible, universally designed content, inclusive of our documentation. Please contact us at itms@muhlenberg.edu with any questions or with suggestions for future documentation.

While important, I don't think it needs to be front and center. We could have a whole page/section to Accessibility potentially working with Support and their materials. Annnd I have soooo many little cheat sheets on good practices that, to my knowledge, don't live anywhere.

    6. Do know that you may place Canvas-related requests using our Canvas support request form!

If there's a way to do asides off to the right in their own little isolated box that are the "Did you know" kind of items, obviously not part of the paragraph text, I think that looks better and more dynamic. Not sure if the site can do it and we'd have to test screen readers though.

    7. (Canvas), video (Panopto), collaboration tools (such as VoiceThread, Hypothes.is), web conferencing (Zoom), among other resources.

Again, not sure how I feel about the menu. Does it show, maybe limit, the purview of our group? Perhaps there's a gimmicky and fun way to do both - show a menu and encourage active engagement and collaboration - not only break-fixing.

    8. (refer below for our calendar!)

this is actually not accessible. any reference to a "lower item" or the like isn't really easy to find. Things like this should be links either to anchor points to that section on the page or the specific page.

    9. What we offer

Does "What we offer" make it more service oriented than we want to be? How do we make this language more about creating partnerships and collaboration rather than a menu of items as though we serve em up?

    1. We are much appreciative of the support of our campus viewers. Here's what some of them have to say regarding our

We could package this with accolades, articles, etc - or maybe use em as asides too. There's plenty of other ways to go about this page.

    2. Our episodes come to you thanks to our interviewee guests and the following production crew, including the ITMS team at Muhlenberg.

having crew list is cool, but i think we can assume all of ITMS in some way has or will contribute. Plus I put it in the credits.

    3. Please view our most recent episode here, or scroll down to the episode by episode links below.

eh. I think we can get away with a simple playlist, maybe something that shows the description too. Gotta look into panopto embed parameters.

    4. Golf Cart Pedagogy: Laura Diorio '20 provides more of the history of Golf Cart Pedagogy in this Muhlenberg College feature.

Don't think this needs to be top billing. It's nice to have press recognition, but it can be down the page more.

  10. www.muhlenberg.edu www.muhlenberg.edu
    1.  workshop materials, including presentation content from past and future ITMS programming.

this is that Google site. Don't look great and there's probably a better way to incorporate an archive into the site.

    1. this compiled list of resources related to accessibility and Universal Design for Learning.

good lord this doc is dense. There has to be a better way to share/organize this information.

    1. About the ITMS Team:

yuk. again, 100% accessible but at the expense of looking nice at all. we dont need links like this for each of us.

An image (maybe a fun one, or a rollover one) and the description - little dossiers. Something. Maybe something more interactive depending on what the site can do.

    2. Please direct Media Services Requests to the form on our Media Services page or by calling the number below for Media Services.

A big distinction that isn't really described as to why contact one versus the other. There are peeps who won't know what's what and saying media services means nothing. I agree it needs to be here in some form, but more descriptive as to why.

    3. The Instructional Technology and Media Services team can be contacted at ITMS@Muhlenberg.edu

such a waste of a page. and so much unnecessary whitespace

general contact info could be put as a footer on each page too so no matter where you are, you have that info. it can be reiterated here, even explained as to the advantage of emailing ITMS to get to the whole group.
