This reminds me of the movie What Happened to Monday as that was a disaster created in part, if not totally by human choices and decisions, that paralleled the technological advancements at the time.

I've personally never thought of it like this, but this is actually a really good point. As satires are ironic exaggerations, it can be seen that a Dystopia is just the satire of our current world, with how they exaggerate and expose our social fears.
