Truthfully, in a more current situation, I couldn't agree more with this sentence. Realistically, men and women, genetically, were not built the same way. In opposition to the author and in reference to the rest of the passage, she is going about the wrong way to prove her point. For example, maternity leave, I believe men deserve a paternity leave because it's their child as well. It should be equal since they are raising the baby together and beginning mothers and fathers usually have a tough time in the beginning adjusting. Although in a way I agree with this passage, I think some of her arguments are weak. For example, when she talks about divorce and one child goes with the mom and the other goes with the dad. Having divorced parents, the children do not get split-they go to each parent together.

When i read this I was expecting to see more similarities with our declaration of independence. Although the beginning is similar to ours, it does not mention any kind of major suffering like this, besides our right to not have taxation without representation. The vietnamese were begging for their independence from the French, this quote is significant because it shows how desperate they were for change.

This was a huge problem during the Great Depression: people were losing jobs and were unable to pay their rent.

These lines stood out to be so much only because it is so true. Education is the one thing that enables us to improve ourselves regardless where our parents started and ended. Education is one of the most powerful gifts we can give ourselves through our lives.

This refers back to my comment about how people in poverty are unable to pay tuition. What is the point of making students stay and work hard in schools if we cannot promise a successful future? I feel like this is one of the many reasons students drop out of school. They must feel like there is no purpose because they cannot afford college and the true evidence of hard work is a college degree. A high school degree does not provide or guarantee a career.

This made me think of problems we currently have today with allowing refugees into our country. On the statue of Liberty it says, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore..."Our country was built on helping and welcoming others and this does not solely have to apply to refugees, but to the people inside our country in poverty as well. We cannot partially follow what she stands for, but with everything that the words on the statue apply to.

I agree with this completely; we allow poverty to occur and we do very little to help them by the way our government is shaped. Although our country allows us to build ourselves regardless of where we came from, it is very easy for those that are financially stable. A college degree is the gateway to obtain a better job or a career, but it is also very expensive to those who make very little. How is a person in poverty supposed to pull out that much money?

This is so powerful because i got the image that even for someone that has good wealth, success is not guaranteed later on in life. As well as for someone that is poor, it does not indicate failure in their future.
