    1. The focus of tenure is on supporting and protecting good teachers.

Theoretically, tenure protects good teachers, but is that really the case? I have had plenty of bad experiences with tenured teachers, and it now makes me wonder.

    2. Its purpose is to provide equitable opportunity for students with diverse backgrounds to include those living in poverty, minorities, special needs, and English language learners.

I recently learned about the ESSA in a different class and how it all relates to accountability. The ESSA requires schools to give students equal opportunity, and that ties into the SARC, which is a School Accountability Report Card that makes sure schools are being honest with the public about how the students are doing academically and that the public's tax dollars are being used effectively.

    3. In fulfillment of the obligation to the student, the educator shall not unreasonably deny the student access to varying points of view

So in this scenario, how does the Code of Ethics come into play if a teacher is forced to intentionally go against their duty of informing students about varying points of view? Can they fight it by using the Code as a guide to what they should and should not be able to teach? How does that work?

    4. outlining expected behaviors and dispositions, identifying professional intent, and solidifying commitments that are expected from educators

I feel like it's not really outlining the expectations, though, because everyone thinks about ethics through a different perspective, so what one teacher thinks is the right thing might be the total opposite to another teacher, and I think that creates a slippery slope upon which all teacher behaviors are defined

    5. When making decisions as a teacher, ethics oftentimes presents a ‘gray area’ and does not always provide a definitive resolution.

If teachers have to make decisions based on what they think is ethical, then if parents disagree and complain about said decisions, how does that situation get resolved if everything is based in a "gray area"? Who makes the final call and how?
