    1. “We’ve begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters.”

This is a really nice quote. It kinda makes you think about how our society talks a lot about raising sons and daughters the same way but I think it doesn't necessarily go both ways.

    2. People who make things are simply different [read: better] than those who don’t.

If you really think about it, everyone makes things and it doesn't always have to be a physical object.

    1. So, in discussing my work, I acknowledge visual artists whose work I have used as a conceptual base to expand my thinking about film, the digital, and duration,

I guess in a way Shulman was not really taught about how not to plagiarize and to give credit to those who inspired you, unless his intentions were to steal then thats a whole different story

    2. if Shulman’s work was created in “a different way” than mine, then it would not violate copyright

Kind of reminds me of when I learned about plagiarism and we listened to a some modern songs and old songs that sounded a lot like them and they were considered copyrighted.

    3. I am embarrassed now to recall how unseemly it felt to write the gallery before the opening to let them know about the situation.

There is no need to be embarrassed however. Do what you gotta do and claim your work

    4. The press and interviews collected on the gallery’s website lauded a conceptual beauty and rigor in his work, but the only thing I could see was a rip-off.

In a way, I get that this is wrong and I would have been pretty upset as well if it were to happen to me but on the other hand, it's hard to say that Shulman completely copied his work, using his work as an example.

    1. Student Organizations, such as clubs may request a domain if they are an active and approved University club. Student Organization domains will live on the faculty or staff advisor’s Domain of One’s Own account as an addon domain.

This is good to know, kinda been thinking about this.

    2. Domains are meant to be more permanent, a piece of the web that’s carved out for a person or long-term project.

I heard that after you graduate, you have to start paying to keep your domain

    1. You agree to allow Instructure and its applicable contractors to freely host, reproduce, transmit, modify, display and otherwise use Your Content (in whole or in part) as reasonably necessary to provide the Services to you, and in accordance with Instructure’s agreement with your Entity, if applicable.

I actually didn't know this. I think they should at least let the student know and see how they feel about it before doing that

    2. You may not share your Account or password with anyone

It's kind of crazy to think that any violation made on your account falls on you even though you weren't necessarily the one doing it. I guess I never really thought about that because an innocent accident can put you in a lot of trouble.

    3. (e) you shall not use any manual or automated software, devices, or other processes (including but not limited to spiders, robots, scrapers, crawlers, avatars, data mining tools, or the like) to “scrape” or download data from any web pages contained in the Website;

      the specificity is real

    4. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS, YOU MAY NOT ACCESS OR USE THIS WEBSITE OR THE SERVICES.

Almost every time we sign up for something, we don't really think about what we are getting into. Especially when it comes to a school related thing, we just assume that everything in the terms of use agreement is fine.

    1. But none of them had a presence online they were in control of before this.”

Really makes you think! Having a presence online can also help people find parts of themselves they might haven't known about before

    2. One student uses her domain to showcase her artwork. Another chronicled her semester abroad. A third student has built a living CV, highlighting her academic research as well as her work experience.

Can be for personal use - not only academic use

    3. Today, UMW and a growing number of other schools believe that students need a proprietary online space in order to be intellectually productive.

      Writing opens up the mind

    4. UMW helps them have more control over their scholarship, data, and digital identity.

As not everyone has that opportunity to gain more knowledge on how to manage different digital aspects such as creating our own website, UMW's Domain of One's Own is a huge advantage for those interested in the digital world. Creating a website usually costs money and being able to test our skills during our time here has been very beneficial.
