    1. The San Francisco State University (SFSU) library is rich with online databases, scholarly journals from all disciplines, aswell as tutorial videos on how to use your Inquiry Question to create search terms, access various databases, and evaluate and organize the sources you find there

how can we make this idea of academic research more approachable in the sense where students aren't scared of academic sources

    2. Read like a Writer . . . remember this from last semester?2. What type of website did the information or knowledge come from? (.com, .org, .edu, etc.) Which do you think is most credible? Least? Why? 3. What evidence do they provide for their claims? What aretheir sources?4. Is this a social media post? From whom? 5. What type of authority does the author have? How do they show this? 6. What are the author’s biases? What are their “public motives”?

I think whenever we analyze something we hac ti come prepared to break it down and ask the questions needed to fully understand the situation

    3. : nytimes.com racial profiling AND immigration AND trauma

when we look at search engines at a broader scale the actually end up helping us more rather than being something that is overwhelming

    1. hus, reading, writing, and research based on Freire’s model of “problem posing” helps students see their own curiosity, interests, and “intrinsic motivation”

so the personal motivation with a genuine connection, is the more "powerful" tool. ex. giving students choices for assignments

    2. students come to see learning not as reading, memorizing, and providing the correct answer.

this is due to the first year transition period, because of high school. high school fails so many students to prepare for higher education.

    3. The more relevant the issue and/or the population is to you, the researcher, the more meaningful the reading, research, and writing process will be

I also believe the more relevant sometime, the more students will be able to resonate with it. The more resonation there is, the more impact it has

    4. ollege research should be driven by open-ended questions that seek to expose real issues or problems occurring in the daily lives of a particular group of people or populations.

The material, and further research material needs to be relevant to students and peers today. Once it is relevant it is also more engaging

    5. o see learning not as reading, memorizing, and providing the correct answer. Here, reading is more about satisfying your personal curiosities about life’s conundrums, whether that’s answering questions about privilege or racism in your life

it is more so the experiences that shape us, and those experiences shape our personal interests.

    1. Unity - consistency and cohesiveness in the overall design.  Everything works together to make one unified whole.

I think these qualities are more so to provide for the appeal of the viewer/audience

    2. Design Elements and Principles Visual Design Elements and Principles It is likely that just by being aware of elements and principles of design, you will be able to understand and communicate with visual media more creatively.   On the other hand, creativity can be inhibited if one is overly concerned with following rules regarding "proper" design, which can become a cause of "designer's block,"  just as writers who are obsessed with proper writing style can suffer from writer's block. So it is good to be aware of such guidelines without becoming obsessed by them.  When you are stuck, it often helps to look at examples of similar projects that other people have created for ideas.  Golombisky and Hagen point out that familiarity with the language of graphic design gives you a vocabulary to communicate about visual ideas and culture, and helps you create more effective visual messages. They list the following design elements and principles in their book White Space is Not Your Enemy.   Note: The following are general design principles used by graphic artists. For design specific to photography, see Patterson (2004). For video, the classic book is Mascelli (1965); more current discussions are in Block (2007) and Mercado (2011). Design elements Design elements (basic units) include

basically all of these elements have different effects and qualities in order to makeup what can make a "quality" visual. There can also different levels of integrity or quality, like. making it more appealing and high production

    3. helps you create more effective visual messages

This reminds me of the saying that a picture is worth 1000 words or something like that. it also can resonate with us longer..

    4. When you are stuck, it often helps to look at examples of similar projects that other people have created for ideas.

in. essence to create or take a new approach to any sort f body of work.

    1. You’ll find that your school is full of diversity! Sometimes you can see diversity physically

Believing// I see it more than I have heard it. at sfsu you look aroubnd and you SEE diversity. I mean I see it in every single class I have.

    2. Orientation will let you know that it’s okay to fail in something new!

Doubting// did not experience this more so I experience its okay change but not to fail also failing is negative

    1. such that children willexplore more on their own than will those with teachers who seem to lack curiosity

there's a point in childhood when your are encouraged to be curious and question your surroundings, but at a certain age that stops and you have exceptions to follow the status quo.

    2. To promote the idea of questioning is to swim against the tide.

question authority? leave prior knowledge outside and start to analyze in a way that is not traditional?

    3. Deep questions help kids to stay curious, grow increasingly resourceful at figuring things out, andbecome active meaning makers

Its clear that asking more intellectual and deeper questions provide a better understanding and gives the ability to connect to other aspects of life. But is there a point where, we also realize, knowing the facts is important and it doesn't always need to be abstract.

    4. we leave less time for questions like

in the time we memorize facts or key points, we lose the opportunity to have a deeper knowledge of the text or any other material.

    5. What’s required is a continual focus on creating a classroom that is about thinking rather than justabsorbing information

When there's a lot of information being taught or presenting can be overwhelming and the material can be easily lost in translation.

    1. “Discipline” by Dead Prez (2000), for a good reminder once in a while.

Thank you for showing us this song on the first day! I thought it was really cool! will definitely revisit it again!

    2. To earn an A, which shows evidence of self-directed learning, motivation to improve and grow, and a substantial amount of extra academic labor and revisions, you will meet the guidelines for a B AND propose an extra, independent project (agreed upon with Dan) to complete in your Portfolio.

when would the proposal for an extra project occur in the timeline for the class?

    3. Essentially, your course grade will be determined by the amount of labor you put into this class, your self-discipline, goals, and academic habits you build, and your revision processes.  The part we will really have to contemplate

community/relation based grading, also depending on the energy you give in the course
